M4 Chart

Does not include folks like Bravo Company that only sell uppers ... theirs are FA BCG, particle tested, pressure tested, etc ... all the good stuff.

One of the things I am known for on some of the online discussion forums is creating comparison charts of various products, whether to compare various vendors or to better explain a product line by a single vendor.

I have found that hosting these charts on Google Docs and then making them public is the easiest way for me to keep them up to date as products change, manufacturers change specs, or new products come online.

Below is a short list of some of the more popular charts that I've created. Probably the best known is the Comparison Chart of Major Brands of M4 Pattern Carbines or, "The Chart" for short. This chart has generated a good bit of controversy on some forums where many people are not happy when presented with facts. The most recent news regarding The Chart is that it, along with an article I wrote about The Chart, appears in the current issue of "Surefire Presents, Guns & Ammo Combat Tactics". Please click on the appropriate link below for more information on how to find this publication

I can supply .pdf files of any of these documents as needed via email. Please visit the ABOUT ME page for contact information.

Comparison Chart of Various Free-Float Rail Systems for AR-Pattern Carbines & Rifles

Comparison Chart of Trijicon Accupoint Optical Sights

Started to read the link, found this:
-------------------------------------------------------------
M16 Bolt Carrier
.
The M16 bolt carrier serves two functions. The first is that the firing pin is fully shrouded so that the hammer is cocked by the carrier and not the firing pin itself. The second is that the M16 bold carrier is heavier and therefore increases "lock time" (or the amount of time that the empty case remains in the chamber after the primer is struck by the firing pin) which aids in extraction. The heavier carrier also reduces the felt recoil impulse which in turn reduces wear and tear on the other internal parts of the carbine.
.
More information on M16 vs. AR15 carriers can be found here

--------------------------------------------------------

Is it fully legal to run an M16 carrier in an AR15? I have always been on the side of caution and stayed away from any M16 parts. I know, years ago, highpower shooters preferred M16 carriers because of the above stated reasons, but could you get pinched for it?

ATF has ruled that FA carriers are OK. No other M16 fire control group part may be legally used in an AR-15.

Some semi-auto carriers are now delivered with the firing pin fully shrouded as well.

Not handy, but take a look at the first 4 vendors on the M4 Chart ... Colt, BCM, Daniels Defense, and Noveske ... they are shown to deliver with FA carriers. I have a friend in Texas that bought a Daniels Defense rifle in March. It was delivered with an FA carrier.
