Edmond Very nice. It is a shame you can only enjoy it "deactivated". Maybe a Second French revolution is needed. And I do not mean that with any malice, we may be needing one here in the near future as well. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Damn!! What is the procedure to deactivate such a rifle? I see the receiver is in quite good repair...

Because that's a only way a collector can have one, select fire weapons can't be owned by civilians in France and most of Europe. I can convert them to semi for licensed registered shooters, the once a machine gun, always a machine gun does not exist here. Deactivation is well made and mecanism is still operating only that the firearm is no more able to fire hence no more a firearm. The barrel is plugged, pinned and welded to the frame, The frame is weakened by a V shaped milling, the bolt head and ejector are ground. There is no repair, this is a brand new weapon. In US , deactivation now means that one big chunk of the receiver is cut out and destroyed. but before, DEWAT was something more simple, a metal rod plug in the barrel or the bolt welded to the receiver. (during the same period in France, deactivation or DEWAT was one hole drilled in chamber and a pin inserted plus removal of firing pin, this process was changed in 1980 when a politician was killed by a reactivated weapon) That's the reason you see rewatted select fire weapons now as long as the weapon was registered during the 1968 Amnesty Period (Gun Control Act of 1968)

Edmond The Ar and AK lines of rifles don't set my heart to going pitty pat like the beautiful Mauser 98s of the past. The ARs and AKs are tools like lug wrenches. Excellent photographs! Schmeisser along with other weapon designers and their families, were relocated to the USSR. On October 24, 1946, the German specialists rode a train to Izhevsk in the southern Ural Mountains, where the center of Russian firearms development was located. German specialists with their wives in Izhevsk. Schmeisser is the second from the left. According to the publications in Russian Internet the famous AK-47 was in fact designed not by Kalashnikov, but by Schmeisser and his German colleagues. Schmeisser’s work while in Izhevsk (1946-1952) is shrouded in darkness. The most of historical documents of the period are still classified. But some facts are known and they make the version presented by Internet very believable. AK-47 strongly resembles Schmeisser’s StG44. Mikhail Kalashnikov admitted in 2009 that Schmeisser “helped” design him the famous AK-47. But Schmeisser couldn’t “help” him. Schmeisser was working in Izhevsk while Kalashnikov, a senior sergeant lacking special education, was supposedly developing his AK–47 during three years period from 1945 to 1947 in a different plant, in the city of Kovrov. Several times several committees dismissed his design as unacceptable. Self taught mechanic Kalashnikov was a leader of the local Young Communist Organization and obviously it was pretty difficult to just fire him as professionally incompetent. Instead he was transferred to Izhevsk in 1947, where Schmeisser and his team worked and almost immediately the AK-47 was completely changed and was released as the perfect machine gun of the future. The name Schmeisser was known at the moment by every Russian schoolboy, as the name of Nazi guns. To use this name for the new Russian weapon was absolutely impossible. The name of the active young communist Kalashnikov was a perfect substitute. http://newslanc.com/2013/12/30...shnikovs-real-story/

I had a friend in the early 70's (dead now) from Czech, name of Vaclav Stepens,an industrialtist + machinest, neither liked by the goddamned russians when they took Prauge. The point here was he told me when he entered America with no money he made shmeissers with his machinest knowledge. He told me;you know what it costs to make a shmeisser? $2.45.His wife was MOST vehement about how she wanted to castrate SS men. Never mistake motion for action.

Edmond: Only civilians have deactivated weapons? Sometimes it looks like your police and military have deactivated guns too in contrast with that bastards living in ghettos around Paris and Marseille, equipped with live AK-47s, RPGs and C4. I will never understand that. Jiri

Well..what is deactivated is the will to use them, weapons, and the skill is not always what it should be.. That would make a complete thread toi go into details.. Those using AK, PKM and RPG are not those living in some suburbs, that's an urnan legend, I have enough friends in police and especially in BAC , anti crime brigade, to tell you, those using them are mainly south eastern european mafia guys and russian former soldiers, coming to western Europe, attacking an armored truck and disappearing somewhere in the Balkans or Russia.
