Good Deal or not?

I found a Enfield Mark 4 at a gunshow, that was unissued and still wrapped in the paper and cosmoline for $350.00?

Is this a good price?

I did not buy it because I didn't know if that was a deal or not.

Any unissued Military rifle still in the original packaging and arsenal cosmoline would be worth more than $350.00 in my opinion. Not to say that someone might not have one...but I would advise some caution on your part if you plan on forking over the cash.

thanks, I looked it over pretty good, the cosmoline and wax paper on it looked really old. Don't know if anyone could have "faked" that but you never know.

thanks for the input.

doubtfull that it's "new". Much more likely an arsenal "rework".... AND they were not wrapped or packaged in anything other than a wooden crate which contained several rifles. Thousands of Lithgows were imported straight into the country still in the crates... many from the other side of the pond (re-works) came the same way.

Be VERY very careful.... you know the old saying "if it looks too good to be true, it is!"

The reworks were selling for under $200 and the NEW never issued lithgows were selling for only a few bucks more.

They're not rare by any means as thousands of them were imported.

Kinda like "rare" 98Ks.... there's a few around, but not many... they only made 12 million of them..... and it would seem half of those are here!

Take a moment or three and look it over. It will be marked with something like "TFR '54" or the like meaning it was "Thoroughly Factory Reworked in 1954." For some reason, the Brits are probably second only to the French in holding onto Mil Equip forever. Mine (MkIV)is marked on the left side of the receiver and it was packed up exactly like a new rifle when I got it - with waxed paper and about two gallons of cosmoline!
Best of luck if you buy it - the old "Smelly" is a lot of fun to shoot.

Lord, give me patience 'cuz if you give me strength I'll need bail money!!

If it's an Irish contract rifle it will have a "ufa" prefix and the factory will be Frazakerly Smiler
