I have a Swedish M38 Mauser. It has a new stock imported from Sweden and all the metal has been rust blued, so it's not all roiginal. A friend has a Weatherby Vanguard in either .300 Win Mag or .300 Weatherby Mag (I'll find out tomorrow) he wants to sell. In order to afford the Weatherby I would need to sell the Swede. Would you consider this a reasonable thing to do? The Swede is becoming a safe queen, but if it will grow in value and be worth more than a Weatherby I'll pass. Jim NRA Life Member

The M38 Swede is a great shooter and from your description it sounds as that is exactly what you have, not a collector piece which will increase in value. If it is either the swede or a .300 mag to use for the next ?? years, I would go with the .300 mag and put it to a lot of good fun use rather than worrying what is at home in the gunsafe. Why waste all of those years in the field. Good luck, BJB

Yeah but the Swede carbines are getting scarce. On the other hand, this one sounds like it's been refinished. Swedes get complicated in their arsenal markings, disks, stock materials etc. I sold a 1900 Oberndorf all straight several years ago and wish now I hadn't. But then I have a safe full of "collector" stuff that I don't shoot much.

I got an 1896 for $100 at the show 6 years ago. I had to talk him down from $115. I got a 1938 Swede unfired for $135 4 years ago at the show, the guy died and his daughter brought the guns to the show. I made an offer
