I am in the market for 1-2 cases of the least expensive brass cased, unlacquered ammo I can buy. Does anybody know what manufacturer I should be looking for, how much it costs, and where I can find it for the best price?

Do you want reloadable brass?

In any case, I'd suggest sampling a couple of boxes of different ammo before you go out and get a couple of cases.

For 1,000 rounds of generic "white box" American made ammo you're looking at a bit over $210 per thousand. The 55gr. FMJ-BT USA, American Eagle, UMC are all pretty close in quality. Of the three mentioned, I prefere the Federal American Eagle (slightly more expensive).

But don't expect real good accuracy from any of the above.

If you want good accuracy, go with something like the 52 gr. JHP Black Hills. But a case of these is going to be about $70 more than the ammo above.

If you don't care about reloading it, like DaMan asks, then I have some called Silver Bear which is steel cased, but zinc plated so they are cheap like the Wolf crap but don't jam or gum up your gun.

They feed and function as well as brass cased ammo.

Zinc plated or not, I wonder about the wear on the parts (ejectors, bolt faces, etc.) the steel case comes in contact with. Though the zinc might be better, steel is hitting steel, somthing has to give, brass is softer than steel and I would think would be better.

I recommend you get some 55 grain Winchester "white box". Some of the new stuff will say "Made In Israel", or some of the Federal 55 grain loads. I have shot, and been present when many, many, many, thousands of these rounds have ben shot, with very vew problems.
All the Black Hills 223 ammo I have shot has been very accurate.

check shotgun news, they have a lot of places that sell bulk ammo. Also try KY Imports cause they have alot of surplus ammo.

The entire case is zinc plated with no steel showing. Also, the steel in all steel cased ammo is very soft, much softer than the CrMo steel your gun is made out of.

I've sold cases of it and people seem to come back. Otherwise, Winchester does make some pretty cheap boxes of 50, the P/N is USA223R1F, cases of 20 boxes.
