Like tomorrow. I can't wait to try it out -- I hope I can find either GP-11 or Indep ammo to hit the range this weekend.

This is the rifle I wrote about a while back, that you all convinced me I had to have.

Todd, The K-31 is a well-made (like a Swiss watch)rifle whose accuracy is second to none. It's trigger is even better than those on my M 28/30 & M 39 Finn Nagants (also extremely accurate). I've been using a variety of cast bullets (sized to .309") in mine and have been getting better than m.o.a. accuracy @ 50 yds. with most of them. When the snow depth recedes, I'll start serious testing @ 100 yds. Btw, the accuracy of the milsurp ammo is quite variable, i.e., considerably greater (worse) than m.o.a.

I just ordered one myself earlier this week $99 bucks including shipping to my door and that is even for a handpick rifle. doesn't seem like there is much better of a deal in the milsurp world, especially for a well made rifle and I have never heard a complaint about one being in really bad shape having a sewer pipe barrel etc. and almost all still have matching parts. I think these will have some serious investment potential in years to come. Has anyone made a sporter out of one of these guns??

Two real good places to start to look for all kinds of information are Big LEE's- SwissRifles.com and Wayne's- Swiss Rifle Forum. You can probably find a picture or two of somebody's sporter. A few short years ago these rifles had prices usually from $400-1000. For me, I've found gp-11 ammo to shoot about MOA with a scope and 2-3MOA open sights. FNM(by Indep) is acceptable but not as accurite. Its saving grace is that it it boxer primed. Hornady/Frontier/Graf boxer primed hunting ammo has been reported to be very good quality in bullets, brass, accuracy, and price. Best-o-Luck

Wait til you hear this BS story...

I was working last night, thinking all night about picking this thing up first thing in the morning. I was at the store (Dunham's) shortly after it opened, with layaway slip in hand. The manager brings 'my' rifle out from the back, complete right down to the layaway stub taped on the end of the box -- EXCEPT, some bastard who worked there had swapped rifles -- the one with the nice walnut stock w/ curly figure is gone, in it's place is a beat up beech stocked one. The manager couldn't believe it, but I know ABSOLUTELY it was not the same rifle. I left without buying one -- boy am I PO'd right now.

My suspicion is directed towards the clerk who initially handled the layaway -- he happened to mention that he collected rifles, and 'boy that stock looks nice.' [Mad] As far as I'm concerned that's stealing from a customer.

That sucks Todd, How much where you going to pay for the gun if you don't mind me asking? AIM has um for 89$ including shipping to your door. That is if you have a C&R licence

Did the layaway slip have the K-31's serial number on? Never heard of doing a layaway without a very detailed receipt. Just my thoughts. Larry

CC,

They were $150, on sale for $130. I figured the nice stock was worth the extra $$.

I agree, I should have had the serial # on it, and next time you better believe it will.

I plan on e-mailing Dunham's corporate office about this whole affair, and see what they will do to satisfy me. It shouldn't be hard to figure out which employee bought a K-31 on or about March 3. Personally, I think they should make the guy bring it in, and if I ID it as the one I picked out, its mine...

Todd: Sorry to hear about your ordeal with the rifles being swapped, Hope you nail the prick! I just bought a K31 with a mint bore and walnut stock, no cracks and can't wait to shoot it. I can't believe how well made these are. They are drying up fast though so buy while you can. Aim surplus is down to the last few cases i was told. With no more shipments they said. Time to buy some Hornady brass in 7.5x55 also 7.65x53 for the 1909s. Good luck with your K31, Swede96.

Todd: Hi, How did you make out on your K31 dilemma? Did you get the one you wanted? If so did you shoot it yet? I just picked up a few as the price couldn't be beat for condition. These are walnut with about 75% blueing, numbers match and perfect bores. I am trying to locate GP-11 ammo at a good price, Any ideas who is cheapest? I ordered Hornady brass for these also. Swede96.

I looked at a cracked stock special at AIM today. I was looking to see if one would make a good bubba, since the stocks are bad. Not! The ones he showed me were in good shape, the stocks weren't cracked, they were water stained on the butt stocks.

I may just see about getting Richard's to make a cutom stock for the one I have and just store the original wood.

As owner of this K-31 I can tell you the rifle is very accurate. I took the rifle for a roe deer hunt in Poland. And everything worked fine.

Even at the shooting range it is a pleasure to shoot the rifle. The GP11 ammo is in Switzerland very cheap but the Norma hunting ammo instead isnt affordable. If you have more questions about the K-31 please feel free to ask

Good shooting and good hunting

Yes the cartridge is 7.5x55

The GP11 was loaded with a 174 grain spitzer bullet and could reach 2640 fps. The diameter of the bullet was increased from the original design, also the length of the case was increased, to 55 mm. The GP11 generates around 45,500 psi of pressure. Older Schmidt-Rubins were converted to fire the GP11, and the round saw service with the 1911 series, the K31 series, and the Stgw 57 series, remaining in service until the mid-1980s. Due to the greater pressures produced by the GP11 round, it is not safe to fire GP11 rounds in Model 1889 Schmidt-Rubins!!! In addition to the standard FMJ GP11 rounds, specialty rounds were produced as well. Armor-piercing Steel-cored rounds can be identified by their violet bases. These rounds can easily pierce .2" of steel plate at 550 yards. Tracer rounds burn out to 880 yards, and can be identified by their red bases. However, most Swiss match shooters use standard GP11 ammunition, a testament to the accuracy of the GP11 round. As a curious side note: according to an article on Cruffler.com. The Swiss GP11 bullet strongly influenced the design of the M1 .30-06 round.

Good shooting and good hunting

Collani,do you know of any one still making the left hand bolt conversion for the Schmidtt-Rubens?
I have a K-31 that has it and would like to pick up another for the 1911.

Swissdagger has an excellent reputation. I've had a some dealings with him and highly recommend him for what ever fits your bill. The Swiss lefty will probably set one back about $250. If anyone, myself included, wants to made a lefty for cheap go to the SwissRifles.com or Swiss Rifle Forum and find the home made lefty kit thread. Best-o-Luck
