Here is a thought, or a few...

If you are a Man:

Is a Woman an outdated design...

Is Beer an outdated design...

Is a Double Rifle an outdated design...

Is Scotch an outdated design...

Face it, some things are just perfect [OK near perfect], when they are concieved/invented.

I think IMHO that the 1911 in 45 ACP qualifies, as being near perfect.

This whole thing seems a tempest in a teapot.

So far, nobody will actually come out and declare the 1911 .45 a really crappy handgun.

It's not a piece of crap. It's actually pretty handy, as handguns go.

I think I've been the most effective critic of the 1911. To the extent I've said the S&W Centennial was one fine revolver.

The old lemon squeezer.

I don't see why being a fan of the J-frame smith should make me a hater of the O-frame Colt.

I think the guy gets all "blowhard" saying that the US has always given its men the "best weapons" available!

Try telling that to the 1400 odd casualties at the Battle of San Juan Hill, who were armed with the 1873 Trapdoor Springfield 45-70 vs the 700 odd Spanish troops armed with the clip loading 1892 Mauser in 7x57mm

He said the Beretta's absolutely won't hold up to it, but interesting the Taurus clone of the Beretta just keeps on trucking

Funny you should say that. I had a Taurus in 40 S&W and I had a complete case head seperation one day at the range. Not only did the gun NOT disentegrate, but it actually ejected the back half of the case head. I was then able to remove the piece of case still in the chamber and then kept on shooting with no problems at all.

The S&W Bodyguard and Centennial are 2 of my favorite handguns. Been using them since the early 1970's.

I use the Bodyguard most often over the Centennial, as I am old school and still believe in sometimes thumb cocking a revolver.

A Chief's Special's alright, too.

Well, I surely ain't no pistol authority. Ill admit that in a heart beat.

I own several .45s, none of them at the moment a 1911 or a 1911 clone. (I used to own a bunch of 1911s in 9 m/m, .38 Super, and .45 ACP.)

BUT, in spending my afternoon today at the nearest gun addiction treatment center (Cave Creek Armory), I happened to notice the new SIG 1911. It has a better rear sight than most of the other 1911 clones I've seen, and appears very well built, with a lot of other what are ordinarily "custom" after-market tweaks.

Surprised me that SIG even makes a 1911 clone as they are deeply into their SIG P-220, but they too must have finally read the 100-year old writing on the wall.

Anyway, it wouldn't take a whole lot to have me trading in my .45 P-220 on a SIG M-1911.

Us antiques gotta stick together....

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

Okay, it's outdated. So that means that they should restrict ownership to those of us old enough to understand how to get by with one instead of a new wundernine or forty-short & weak.
