An old guy who left the military in the 50's picked up a Garand National Match model somewhere, new, because he liked shooting them in the service. He didn't have time to shoot it much apparently, because less than 1 box (i.e. 20 rounds) went through the barrel in 40 odd years.
He also bought a 1957ish Model 70 in 30-06, which was completely original, with even fewer rounds through it. He had everything the gun came with in 1957!
I could have had either one for $500, both for $900, but passed because I didn't know enough to realize what I was passing on. Todd [kicks self in head]
Todd, Don't kick yourself too hard. We have all passed on deals we later regretted. The one I regret the most was a BM-59 for $125 that I passed on about 1975 because I thought I might not be able to find parts. How was that for stupid?

I was in a store yesterday and found a Garand that was refurbished by Springfield armory for $700. It had the papers from Springfield with it. Very nice rifle, I just wish that I could have talked my wife into letting me buy it. Instead, she let me buy an Argentine Mauser, so I guess that I can't complain.
