Asking this for a friend. Don't know the answer. He's replacing the extractor on one of these and wants to know if a special tool's necessary to do this? He already has the necessary parts, otherwise. Maybe a "how to" would be nice, too, if anyone knows. Thanks.

Edit: Found a "how to" with pix on the 'net to send him, so don't need that.

Gimpy,

There is a bolt disassembly tool that can be purchased from either Sarco or Numrich Arms.

From personal experience I'd highly recommend it. While the bolt can be disassembeled without the tool, trying to keep the extractor detent and spring from leaving this dimension is difficult. You will also launch the ejector plunger and it's spring.

The first time I didn't know any better and lost them both in a shag carpet. They are most likely still there.

The second time I knew better but still thought that I could do it. Lost them both again and this time there was no shag carpet. I bought the tool and it has been well worth the money.

Good luck.

Regards,

Eric

Thanks, Erik. My friend got everything back together and his experience was just as you said! Took him about 2 hrs sans the correct tool. Anyway, I'm gonna C&P your post to him. He never believes anything I say! A bit of a hammerhead.
