US - 9mm Parabellum, with some .45s in use by special forces.

NATO - 9mm Parabellum

The current pistol is the Beretta M9. It is the equivalent of the the 92F. It is 9MM
There is talk of possibly going back to the 45ACP because of more stopping power.

The U.S. is not going back to the .45acp. They just placed a new order with Beretta - 48,000 new M9s if I recall correctly.

As stated, some spec ops are using a .45acp handgun, but that's not many in total.

as far as i know navy seals actually use the sig 226 9mm because its more compact than the beretta. the sig is designated the M-11. the 45 would be mostly used for silinced applications and i beleive most special ops guys still abide by the 2 to the head one to the chest rule. the military will probably replace the m-4/m-16 rifle before they get rid of the beretta.
