OK, I'll buy that, and have no ill feelings toward an SKS and have a Yugo version and it is somewhere in the back of my truck. Hopefully that is where it stays for a long time.
However, I would encourage either of you to give the pie plate a try at 200yds with the SKS and if available do the same with the Garand. Am glad to hear that you have shot in matches for the course of fire is probably the best training one can get in becoming a skilled shooter with whatever rifle. We should start a series of "postal matches" where the shooters simply mail in their targets and a disinterested party determines scores, declares a winner. You can use whatever rifle/caliber you want or be specific as well. Lots of fun and good training to boot!

At least I know where to buy feed for one of my Garands.

A French FSA MAS 49-56 might have the advantage of not having a Marine DI making me make unnatural advances toward it.

The bastard.

There's brass available for it and if not you can use the 6.5x55 Swede case and regular 30 caliber bullets are okay. I believe the groove diameter is suppose to be .307, but mine is closer to .308.

Exact. and brass is easy to find as well as ammo made by Prvi Partizan and distributed by Graf in Mexico, Montana.
Some is sold under Hornady name, I believe.
Lapua brass is perfect for forming but not the US made 6.5 Swede that have a headcase similar to 30-06 and .308 ie too small.

How are you Edmund? Good I hope. Hey we are on the same page. I'm also a big fancier of the MAS 49/56 and think of it as a great rifle. Lot's of good ideas incorporated into it.

Wanna cry? The last batch of rearsenaled MAS has been melted these past years. The Manurhin revolvers are being melted since the SIG pistol replaced them..
OK! I stop here..

The SIG 2022, a SIG Pro modified for this contract is now used by all law enforcement ie Gendarmerie Nationale and Police Nationale as well as the Customs. nearly 250 000 pieces have been produced for this contract.
The MAC 1950 is still the service pistol for the armed forces. all special units use what they want. A small batch of the MAS G1 S has been taken out of storage and given to infantry units in Afghanistan after what happened in the Kapisa valley last august.
