That rifle looks good and rugged, when was it made and taken in use?

We used for many years the NM 149 and the NM 149 S up here built on the M98 with a laminated stock and a S&B scope 6x42, it was in basically good if corruption had built it and thereby given it some shortages.

it entered service in 1965. Our american friends asked the range officers in Germany to disqualify it for the NATO shooting contests saying it was a sporting rifle not a service weapon.

It was after this rifle repeatedly won the contests dancing

It has been upgraded to FGRF 2 and FRG 2 versions in 7.62 x 51 after 1990.
