You remember that time that we almost got captured by those Japs on Guadalcanal?

It's been so long that I have forgotten which types of weapons we used to wipe out that battalion. Was it BAR's or did we use the weapons we took off the guys we escaped from?

I do remember how heavy they got while we ran over the mountains and crossed all those swamps making our get-away. Remember when you had to dive down and save me when that friggin mortar I had slung over my shoulder made me sink? Boy, I still can't figure out how you did that while firing that .50 cal off hand at the same time. Of course, you were in much better shape back then!

The only good thing about those swamps was how they kept our machine guns from cooking off rounds and running away on us. And thank God for those Brens we got from the Aussies with the upsidedown mags that drained the water off on their own...they pretty much saved our ass a couple of times.

The only thing I hated about them was that every time I opened up they started pulling me towards the enemy because of that stupid gas piston set up they have. I remember how you kept having to grab my foot and pull me back after I fired. Damn...no wonder they gave you the CMH after that battle!

Hey, those were the good old days...Huh?

Rick,

I'm trying to forget all that shit, and you go and bring it all back, the cookoffs, the belt twisting, the Bren Gun! I think I'm gonna' have a flashback!

What was really bad, and I know you haven't forgotten, were those early undercover ops that we participated in while we were attached to the infant 1st Force Recon Bn to try and help the Frogs from bein' overun at Dien Bien Phu. All that rain and wet sure kept them watercooled Brownings cooled though. Remember the time we humped those recoiless rifles into position and I almost got pulled into the backblast cause I was firing that damn Bren gun we captured from the bandits on the way in.

I think those POS Garands they gave us were a big mistake, too. Eight rounds, and ping, you're done and every gook in Indo China knew our location! Good thing we had the knee mortars with us. But the coolest thing, and to this day I don't know how you did it, was the day you figured out how to convert the M1's to accept and fire the belted ammo for those useless Brownings. And to think you did it with just a P38, a K Bar, and a bipod from the Boye's anti tank gun we captured from those hostile 'Yards we ran into after we ran into those bandits. And not ONE cookoff the whole time!

And to think, all they gave you was the Navy Cross. Life just ain't always fair. But it sure was a fun ride.

SEMPER FI you ole Devil Dog!

Rick and craigster,

Boy I am impressed with you boy's military experiences!!! Guadalcanal and helping out the frogs in 'Nam back in '54. Strange a couple ol' marines like you two, who are obviously great war heroes, and you did not participate in the Chosin reservoir? Or, is simply you guys haven't gotten around to telling us about fighting off the Chinese and the horrendous weather. Would really like to hear all about how you boys kept those M1s, M2s, BRENs, BARs, recoilless rifles (would that be the famed "bazooka"?), Japanese "knee mortars", and ol' Browning MGs working in that bitter cold (hey if you were there at Chosin too, did you use PPsH submachine guns and Mosin Nagants you lifted off of dead chinese??)

Thanks for sharing your war stories with us all. I at least have found them immensely telling of your character. Needless to say, I am IMPRESSED, to say the very least!

Craigster....Do you hear the same "little squeaking sound" on this thread that I do?

Annoying little sound...huh?

Also...do you remember the name of that body of water we had to cross in China when we were on the secret mission to assassinate Mao back in the early 60's? Was it "Grape Creek" or something like that?

Now that you mention it, I think it was Grape Creek. I'll check my old map. How do you spell Grape Creek in gook?

Yeah Rick, I remember them well. But the worst had to be the ones at Khe Sanh. Sumbitches were as big as a house cat and mean too! Do you remember the time that one decided to crawl into the 155 to take a nap and the FNG's runnin' the gun forgot to check the bore before that fire mission? Worst case of barrel bulge I ever saw.

Craigster,

I'm still hearing that damned "squeak"...sounds sort of like those slimy rats that were driving us crazy in Belleau Woods back in 1918 when we were with the 6th Marines. Boy... now that was a battle huh?

If it hadn't been for the "grapes" we kept feeding them I swear they would have overrun us!

What? Can ya say that again, sonny? I'm a war vet and I got too close to the muzzle break a few times on the recoilless rifles we used back in the "Old Corps".

Rick,

Do ya think that squeak might be comin' from a former "house mouse"? Nahhhh. Not even. No way.

Craigster,

I'm still hearing that little "squeaky rat" around here...is it just my old ears acting up? Might be from that "big noise" on that secret mission I was conducting in Hiroshima back in 45!

Craigster,

It's still out there squeaking away!

The scariest thing to think about when considering the creation of that squeaky, slimy, little rat is that the single sperm that actually fertilizes the egg is the "best" one out of the lot! Can you just imagine what the other ones would have produced????

Reminds me of the time when I was teaching Chesty Puller how to shoot a Thompson back in China when we were with the 4th Marines and that brain dead little PFC kept running around picking up brass and getting in the way. Chesty kept remarking about the best part of this guy being left on the sheets. If I recall, that PFC's name was Clown...or something like that! Wonder if he ever had any children?

You are not inferring that you are also "grape creek" are you?

I am getting confused, so much story telling!

Hey did you get those thermo-nuclear weapons figured out yet Rick?
