Without doing some serious heavy-duty research, I'd guess you are not going to find any original mounts intended especially for the Carcano, unless you are extremely lucky. If I was going to scope a Carcano and didn't want to make my own mounts on the mill, I would look around for an older Weaver generic side-mount. If you use a top-mount of any kind, you likely won't be able to use the rifle as a repeater, as the mounted scope will keep you from pushing the 6 round en-bloc clip down into the magazine. The rifle will still function fine as a single shot, but I'd guess that's not what most folks would want in a Carcano. With a Weaver side mount, and maybe a little bending, you can offset the scope to the left side, so the clip can still be used. The mount will not be as sturdy as a top mount, but it will work okay for most applications. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

You might cook up aome sort of scout style mount to put the scope ahead of the magazine over the receiver ring. I think it was Pachmayer that used to make a swing over mount. It was intended to permit swinging the scope out of the way so the iron sight would be used. It was side mounted on bolt guns. the Pach mayer mount would permit you to swing the scope out of the way for loading. To get the mount and have it installed would cost more than most Carcanos are worth.

Yes, Echo used to make one also. In fact, think I still have one of those down in my shop. A guy could use a Griffin & Howe side-mount too, but these days that G&H mount, without having it installed, is worth about twice as much as a Carcano normally sells for... weaver still makes one, a side mount, midway and others have them but the reciever will need to be drilled.the catalogs dont always list it as carcano because it may be a generic mount. check the weaver website for the part # If your gonna be dumb, you gotta be tuff.

My dad bought a 6.5 carcano for me to hunt with before the 68 gun control act it cost $16 and came with 200 rds of ammo from montgomery wards, mail order. sighting is was something else, the bullets that hit the 100 yd target almost all keyholed , sometimes it shot balls of fire downrange, we had a good laugh and it sat in a closet for almost 30 yrs. Now this gun didnt look bad , nice stock bluing o.k. sporterized by removing the bayonet and wooden heatshield part of the stock. i believe it was a m 38 turni it had the 17 in bbl, the saftey was so stiff the guy i sold it to pinched a nerve in his hand getting it off. we had the surplus ammo and some norma and after some testing the results were about the same as 30 yrs earlier .we concluded a 50 gallon drum was safe from the carcano if it was 100 ft away ( i hold an nra expert rating ) if Oswald killed Kennedy then he probably was shooting at the grassy knowl and it just wasnt Kennedy's lucky day. A few months ago i got hold of a couple more , a 91 and a 38 baretta i loaded up some new norma brass with the hornady .268 160gr. with one i got a group at about 50 ft that formed a triangle the bullets all keyholed and almost touched, forming about a 3 in. triangle. the other gun shot a 10 in. group at 50ft all were keyholed. Now i would agree with those that say the guns seem to be an o.k. design for the most part, trigger pull not to bad , easy to work on ect. I would like to hear from a collector who has shot a bunch, is your experience like mine ? If your gonna be dumb, you gotta be tuff.

I have two Carcano's, one carbine and the other a rifle. I put Weaver side mount scopes on both. While not the best arrangement, I get 2 - 2.5 inch groups pretty consisently at 100 yds. with my hand loads, with both, which may a fluke. The feeding even with clips is a real pain. Ain't the best military rifle but, I've had fun with them at times. Get a Weaver side mount and give it a try.
