The magazine cutoff was removed at some time in it's long life and not replaced ,this could have happened while it was in service ,or after it was sold out of service, the no.1* is a sort of transitional model between the mle and the no.1 mk 3, it has a sliding charger guide machined into the bolt head which was discarded in favour of the charger bridge found on the no 1 mk3 and mk3*.

The rifles are somewhat rare and worth a bit more than a mk3*, how much more depends on condition ,how original it is (read matching no's)and how deep the buyers pockets are, not to mention how long his or her arms are.

These guys are the real experts when it comes to lee enfields.
