Can someone give me the names (preferably websites) of guides for musk ox hunts? I'm debating between an Africa hunt, Australia hunt or Musk ox hunt. If I choose to hunt musk ox can other game species be included in the hunt? What caliber rifle is recommended? What does a musk ox hunt typically run? How far in Advance would booking need to be done? Thank you for your input.

I've never hunted muskox, so take it for what it is worth... Everything I say is hearsay....

Look at Fred Webb. He is pretty damn good at Arctic hunts..

Muskox hunta re described as 'survivable'

You tool around with a snowmobile, you stay in wall tents or cabins..and sometimes it hurts! It's #$%^&*( cold!

It's an 'experience' more than a hunt..Because you have to survive a few days before you get the chance to shoot.

Anything around a 30-06 is fine.

You will get more bang for your buck (meaning more animals) in Africa. But to experience the north....(and here I speak form a bit of experience) is tremdous....

They're usually one week hunts. 30-06 on up is suitable. Expect to pay from $4250 to $6300 (there are early fall lodge hunts out of Cambridge Bay). Depending upon the area, other species available could include wolf, wolverine, caribou, ptarmigan, arctic hare, or fishing for trout and char. As always, the further ahead you book, the better, and the later you try to book, the better the chances are to lose out on a specific date. Fred Webb's an old friend and competitor, but you won't do any better than to call him now! ~Arctic~

I have hunted with High Arctic Lodge on Victoria Island twice now for Muskox. The hunting and fishing are both out of this world. I used a 300 Win Mag with 200 gr Swift A Frames and my son used his .338 with 250 grain Partitions. I also agree that anything from a 30-06 up would do the job - ranges are normally close i.e. 100 yards or less.

Ryk Visscher, former president of APOS, has a buddy who does muskox hunts, he recently reiterated some info on that. You'll have to remind me to send you that info, just got back from Toronto, and I'm packing the truck for a weekend out near the Clearwater River with my son, and hopefully a big bear ;-)

Or see www.ryk.ca, I think he has the info on his site. Tell him Frans Says hi!
