Carring rifle bolt

I like to carry the bolt out of my traveling rifle when we are in the camper. In the US the receiver is the gun, so outside of the airlines carrying the bolt is not a problem. I cannot stop a thief when I am away from the rifle, but I can destroy the economic incentive for stealing the gun.

Although I will check at the border when I enter Canada, what is the story? If I do the paperwork, can I carry the bolt in the bottom of my daypack in parks and on the street? Or is a gun part a problem? I have read and I think I understand the lock, case and otta sight rules, but I still like carrying the bolt.

Thanks,

It's a hunk of steel at that point. I wouldn't go flashing it around though.
