anybody out there tell me about courageous lake outfitters? also best time for the big bulls. The central barren ground is the only one i'm missing & all my others are B&C heads so i'd kinda like to keep them all big. this outfitter looks good, but i don't know anybody who has gone with them.

John Andres runs one of the best caribou camps in Canada. But hunting is hunting and a B&C bulls are tough to come by. Mid Sept has been excellent for trophy bulls. Another option is Northern Manitoba. It is closer for us and easier on travel. I have been intrigued by trying Manitoba lately. Drive to Winnipeg, most resorts have flights from there. Monroe Lake lodge has been doing well on big bulls but I have not been to Manitoba to Caribou hunt.....Yet ddj The best part of hunting and fishing was the thinking about going and the talking about it after you got back - Robert Ruark

John Andre is a solid agent and outfitter. He has one of the best Central Barren Ground operations in the NWT. I have heard a bit too about Manitoba coming on but have not really researched it much. I like mid to late September, but expect caribou to be scattered and do not be disappointed if you don't see the Wild Kingdom TV migrations. Someone else just ran a thread about this operator in the past week or to that might help you. Good luck, Wade

For the Courageous area, I'd pick the 1st to the 20th of September based on the last few years movements. Haven't heard anything yet on movements this year, but should tomorrow at a meeting with biologists. A stranger is a friend we haven't met

If you look in the B&C book at the number of trophies entered, C.Lake is the best. From 2000 - 2009 the results are: 1. Courageous Lake, NT 16 entries 2. MacKay Lake, NT 10 entries 3. Rendez-vous Lake, NT 9 entries Total number of entries from 2000-2009 NWT - 71 Manitoba - 18 Hope this helps,

Butch, good luck on the Caribou hunt. Make sure you inquire about the 'Drinking" aspect of your trip. At the camp we were at, the drinking was way out of controll by the guides. I have since found a couple of places that either hired from out of province or had a strick no drinking policy. Those will be the places I use when I get back up that way again. Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions. Calgary Guy

Butch, just make sure your camp is moble. I had 5 guys up there last year and they only took one 'bou total, and the camp 12 miles down the river were fillin out in one day and they would not move the cleints down to the other camp. Just something else to ask about. For its a little pricey to go all that way for a fishing trip !!!.
