Hi, I've posted this here cause a lot of responses in the archive about P14s & BSAs come from Canadian members, so... could someone tell me please what scope blocks BSA modded P14s take, I'm assuming either Win Model 70 or Rem 700 type? Mine has a Lyman peep on it which is OK but it is capable of much better accuracy than I can shoot with the peep so I think its time to upgrade to a scope.

Thanks for that, I'd already looked at the Weaver site but it doesn't cover the BSA sporterised P14 specifically. The later models with rounded receivers, Monarch & CF2s, use the same blocks as Rem 700s do, so I reckon its probably these but I was hoping that someone who had done it might know or be able to give me the Weaver #s they've got. Our local guy doesn't carry much Weaver stock & I don't want to have to order them in & then find I've got the wrong ones. Frowner

Parker Hale! I no longer have an old Parker Hale catalogues but these will give the correct code number. These blocks are usually fairly easy to find on eBay. Or you could contact Alfred J Parker in Birmingham, UK to see if they can advise.

Or try this old thread: http://thehunterslife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=783

Close but no cigar yet! I have however had a lovely prowl thru many an interesting post on these forums (forae?), always something new to learn. Smiler
Your mention of a P-H catalogue got me digging till I found mine. Its not old enough to feature to P14s etc but it does have relative heights of their mounting blocks & with some measuring & bit of sleuthing I might just crack my wee problem.

Hi: I was advised to measure the distance between the holes in the receiver and then get Leupold adjustable bases and rings in case the holes are a little bit off center

Shinzo I have one of the BSA P-17 in 30-06 which was contoured the same as your P-14. Mine has Weaver # 35 & # 36 bases on it . I have seen some rifles that appeared to be BSA's that had a little more material ground off the rear bridge. This resulted in the rear base being a few thousands of an inch lower than it should be.Check this with a straight edge from the front base. If this is the case a piece of shim stock under the rear base will correct this.

Many thanks snowman, you've confirmed what I had basically been able to work out & I'm happy to say that my receiver measures spot on for the #35/36 bases, so I have now ordered some & will be keen to get them fitted up. I hadn't realised that BSA had done M17s as well, but it seems logical, I certainly enjoy my BSA, its a lot more than just a curiosity, it still gets to earn its keep. I've just ordered a stack of WW2 Dominion brass to use in it, its still the best brass around for 303s & in a front locking action like the P14 should last me for ages.
