Any suggestions on routes, layovers to avoid, travel agents? I used Travel with Guns for Africa last year and will probably check in with them again, just want to make sure I'm not missing any more suitable options.

I would strongly recommend flying in 2 days before your trip to the bush. Also fly out on the 2nd day after you're out of the bush. I flew in early and my buddies flew in the day before. Due to weight restrictions, luggage and guns didn't make the flight and they had to wait till the am flight (after our bush flight) so they missed a day and also had to pay for an extra chopper flight in.

Same coming out and you'll don't have to worry bout all the other returning hunters with their gear.

If you can avoid Toronto do so. It is a zoo and even with a meet/greet it will take you 2.5-3 hours to navigate. Even if your flight is longer I'd look at entering Canada through about any other port of entry.

I'd just heard the same talking with another SCI CT chapter member who just returned 2 weeks ago. He ended up flying through Halifax from Newark and onto Deer Lake.

If I go back I will try to go through Halifax and if at all possible avoid Air Canada.

Another consideration would be an all day drive to St John’s, New Brunswick. They have a nice, small, hunter friendly airport. You’d be driving through customs both ways, much less stressful than airport customs. I know people here, albeit closer, that do that every year for hunts in western Canada. In the past I have taken a client there who was bound for a Newfie hunt that he had booked immediately following his hunt here in Maine. I also agree with all of Mark Young’s comments should you fly the entire trip. Have a good time

I did this a long time ago. I remember it was a massive pain in the backside for me. It was s very long day as I recall. I believe there were 4 legs for me. You are doing the right thing by checking.

Flights are not looking pleasant. Can't seem to find one that doesn't go through Toronto. Does anyone have recent experience with Toronto with a firearm?

I just did a quick look and you can fly nonstop Boston to Halifax on Air Canada or Westjet but have to take Air Canada to Deer Lake or United Newark to Halifax but there again AC to Deer Lake. I know some of the guys have had an unpleasant time with AC and guns especially through Toronto I can understand that I hated Toronto even when I was the Capt.But having said that I have traveled on AC with a gun countless times with no trouble but I would stay away from Toronto.
