Just getting the wheels in motion on this, probably for 2016. Anyone have advice on areas and outfitters/guides for a nice mulie hunt? Thinking Alberta, but B.C. or Saskatchewan would also work. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

No non-resident mule deer hunting in Saskatchewan off the Indian Reserves. Southeastern Alberta is likely your best bet for a big deer.

Thanks Sheephunter. I was looking at those two gorgeous mounts by Artistry in Wildlife in the taxidermy forum. WOW! There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

We had a bad winter kill in Alberta in 2010 so numbers are definitely down but some really big bucks have been showing up the past couple years, especially right in the SE corner of the province.

Bill........ no doubt that southern Alberta is a great spot for big mulies as suggested by TJ. The Peace country in NW Alberta and NE BC also produces some big bucks but guys I know up there say it has had two major hits from winter kill in the last decade. I would also look at the East Kootenay and the Chilcotin Regions of BC. Both areas can produce some big bucks and most of the hunts are at a much more reasonable price than what seems to be the norm now in Alberta's better areas. ______________________________________________ The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who are bereft of that gift.

Alberta had a soft winter last year, but the last 3 were tough. A buddy of mine is a wildlife biologist for a hunter based conservation outfit. He figures that over the last 3 years, any muledeer to see its 6th birthday was living on borrowed time, at least in central Alberta. He aged a buck my wife shot at 6 1/2 yrs old. That buck was old and used up. He had regressing antlers, zero fat in November and wouldn't have made it through the winter. Still plenty of deer, but a young herd. If I were looking to book an Alberta hunt, I'd look in the SE where winters are always mildest. This year, I'd also look into precipitation too. It has been pretty dry in places. Good luck, Dean ...I say that hunters go into Paradise when they die, and live in this world more joyfully than any other men. -Edward, Duke of York

Bill, If you want a mountain adventure I kill some nice bucks in the West Chilcotin Mtns. I won't be driving around in a pick up and you may need to walk abit, but I believe it is the best bang for your buck.
