Well I think I have my plans finalized for this year, at least I have my plane tickets in hand!

Will be heading up to Alberta September 30 through October 9 and then back November 12 through November 20 hunting Whitetails will also have a Muley Tag. I got lucky last year taking my first Mule Deer up there...it scored 201 1/8"! and is the tallest Mule Deer I have seen so far!

Does anyone have knowledge about Bears up in 511 in late September/early October? Is it worth purchasing a Bear Tag in case I run across one worth taking??

I love going up to Alberta...magnificant country and the biggest Deer in the world!...well thats my opinon...

I went ahead with two trips in order to increase my odds on taking a CRANKER Whitetail!

Thanks for your assistance! I am looking forward to heading up that way!

Regards, jjs

I don't have a map handy, but I belive thats just outside of Fort McMurry. I've been told there are very good numbers of blacks up there. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in big sky!

My advise, get the tag. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing a beautiful bear and knowing that if only you had bought the tag.

Last year I watched a nice bear on a cut line for over an hour. When I had bought my tags I had decided not to get the bear tag because I was just going for whitetail. This fall I probably won't see a bear to speak of but I'll still have the tag.

If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."

Actually 511 is just north of athabasca. At that time of year, the bears should still be active if the weather is normal.

Stubblejumper you are correct 511 is North of Athabasca....

I am looking forward to heading up that way soon! Thankfully, I have a date in Tanzania (next week) with Buff which should take my mind off Alberta for a few days!

Thanks again!
