Just thought I'd let everyone know that the elk were answering our bugles today. They weren't bugeling on their own though. We called in 3 little guys with cow calls, but "big daddy" didn't show up. My new boots sadly have let me down, damn I wish I could find boots that fit.

We heard a bugle come out of a group of about 20, in farm country West of Cochrane. A bull was half-hartedly rounding up a cow or two. Acording to a friend the elk are bugling like crazy near Canmore. Is this early?

I think Grizz could give us some clues!! I've heard others say they are bugeling too...I didn't hear it myself though-without having to prompt them.

On the way to sheep hunting country yesterday I passed through a bit of Waterton Lakes National Park .. there was a real buster of a bull elk about a hundred yards off the road. I stopped below his line of sight and went to have a peek .. He was in full freakin' rut .. screaming ... another bull was off to the west doing the same in return .. North and to the west a third bull was chasing after a cow ... Instead of looking for mythical rams I probably should have stayed and enjoyed the show ... thumb
