I am leaving in two weeks for a caribou hunt in Newfoundland. The flight itenerary goes into Toronto then changing planes to Deer Lake, NF.

At what point in the trip do I complete the Customs paperwork for entry with a weapon? Will luggage be off loaded in Toronto and processed there or is this done at the final destinantion?

Thanks for any info.

I"m leaving this friday for Newfoundland, flying into Halifax, then on to St John, then Gander. My understanding is that I will be required to register my rifle in Halifax on arrival. You will need a non-resident firearm declaration which you can download from the Canadian firearms center.
Go to the address below and click on non-residents

Have a great hunt!

You will collect you luggage in Toronto & clear customs there. Once your through, your luggage goes back onto a beltway & on to your destination.

Thanks for the replies. That helps clear things up ... and explains the 3 hour layover.

I just returned from a waterfowl trip in Alberta; customs is as the previous posters describe, and I should add that the process was very efficient and the Canadian customs officials were extremely pleasant and professional. One thing I noticed was that they all seemed very young, average age mid to late 20's at the oldest, I found that interesting...

Good luck on your hunt,

Regards,
Craig Nolan
