I was wondering what the black fly/mosquito situation was likely to be in Northern Quebec in May and June. I hunted Spring bear in Ontario before and it was pretty miserable. Despite DEET and a face net, I came off the stand with crusted blood on my face each evening; not something I wish to repeat.

Looks like your not going to to Quebec! Try alberta seem to have less bugs and big bears not to mention a chance at a color phase.
Good luck.

Deet and a face net work, but also tends to take the finish of your nice gun stock !

DEET and a face net worked to keep the mosquitos off but didn't do much for the black flies which were the most annoying.

Has anyone tried a Thermocel? It works well for Ohio mosquitos but I have no idea if it will work for black flies.

hello,

we are you going in northern quebec?

i used to try thermacell but if the winds is picking up then no luck and the small flies that you can t see will still be there.

and they are in love. season is short for them.

take duct tape with you and gloves too. the duct tape can be put around your ankles (connection between shoes or boots and trousers) you will thank me.

depends on weather leading up to and including your hunt...you can have bugs a plenty 1 year and then next year not bad in same time frame.

We use and recommend thermacell or the little Off units with the built in fans.

Walk in to bait site and the bugs are brutal and turn on thermacell and settle in to tree stand to hunt and seconds later you can pull your bug net and gloves off.
