TR 405, what part of BC? Some airports only host a limited number of airlines.

Also, I assume you will be flying out of New York?

Cheers,
Canuck

Sorry, more questions... where would the outfitter like to pick you up?

Grande Prairie (Alberta) is only about 1h20mins drive from Dawson Creek and has quite a few options for flying out of Edmonton or Calgary.

Fort St John (BC) is only about 45 mins drive from Dawson Creek and has some options, but not as many as Grande Prairie. And your usually better off going through Vancouver.

Dawson Creek has a piddly little airport and I think they are down to one little airline (Central Mountain Air).

If you can clarify where your outfitter will pick you up, I can lay out the available options.

Cheers,
Canuck

ps: WOW. As much as I am not a fan of Air Canada, I did a quick check for you. They must have some kind of a seat sale on....you can fly AC from La Guardia to Toronto to Vancouver to Fort St John for $274!!!!

Sounds like a typo to me. You sure this isn't just New York to Toronto?

There must be bloke willing to come pick you up in Grande Prairie, for a modest fee...? I know someone in Dawson Creek who might know somebody.

I have once flown Central Mountain Air, Calgary to Lloydminster and back, on the same flight. We flew just above the clouds above Lloydminster, zigzagging for a while, then dipped through the clouds. As soon as we saw the ground the pilot pulled up and flew back to Calgary. Too much snow was the official excuse.

It was no typo Grizz, but I could have been more clear...it is a one-way fare. I travel A LOT in my job though and this is by far the best fare back east I have ever seen, especially when you include the YVR to Ft St John leg! It would be $550ish return.

Here's a screen shot of the Air Canada website from this morning...(its a little blurry after photobucket resizes it...)

Steve, I had no idea what your dates were, so I just picked a departure of May 15 (arriving same day) and a return date of May 31. If your dates are different, the same fares may not apply.

You can find the same thing on www.aircanada.ca

AC will charge you $50 per direction (ie $100 total for the return trip) to handle your firearms if you are bringing one (does not apply to bows).

With that type of fare, I will go out on a limb and say that itinerary is likely your best bet (versus flying into Grande Praire, but I can check that quickly too).

There are shuttle services from the Fort St John airport to Dawson Creek (I think its $40 CDN, but I haven't used it for a couple years now).

Hope this helps,
Canuck

Cheers,
Canuck

Frans,
They are not bad. Given my location I have no choice but to fly on the rinky dink little airlines. CMA subcontracts the AC flight into Calgary from here and I use it two or three times a month. I have never had an issue...and you can imagine some of the conditions going over the rocks in the winter!
I have also used CMA between Dawson Creek and Prince George a few times and they were always dependable.
Cheers,
Canuck

Oops...will have to change my mind on that already. The Grande Prairie fare is only $234!!! Remember these are one-way fares.

There is a shuttle from GP to DC as well (same company actually), but I have never used it so I don't know how much it costs. I'd guess $60 based on the increased distance.

Cheers,
Canuck

If you are here two or three times a month, it's about time to buy you a beer!

But you are right, no need to bash a company because of one experience. Better they turn around and keep me in one piece, than crashing in a blizzard. And, on the up side, I get to fly with them again, end of the month, to Lloydminster.

I very seldom do any business in Calgary...usually just passin through on my way to Winnipeg or Toronto. My Calgary layover is typically under an hour, so I don't leave the secure area....BUT if I ever have a longer layover I'll shoot you an e-mail and see if we can't meet for a brew.

Cheers,
Canuck
