From what I caught on the news last night, Fidel Castro had some comments about Edmonton. Missed the actual piece but I'm surprised he actually knows Edmonton and is still with it enough to come up with a a comment. Big Grin

I used to live on the south side of Edmonton. When I was a lad it was the extreme south side and I walked out into farm fields to trap "gophers". Learned to skate on a frozen slough. Tied a .22 on the frame of my one speed bike and rode out the a creek valley to shoot rabbits and grouse.

The area is a long way from the south boudery of the city today.

Now I live on an acerage near Rocky mountain house. I have relatives and friends in Edmonton yet and so I drive up there from time to time. And I still pull for the Oilers and the Eskimos.

I used to head out around Edson a lot to hunt and fish. I've often thought about taking a trip out to some of those old haunts to see how things are different or the same.

There used to be a great shooting range out near Fort Saskatchewan, I don't know if it still there. Sherwood park Fish and Game Association has a gun range and a web site you may want to visit.

Have a good one!

I live in the west end and have been in Edmonton all my 51 years. I can still recall, as a child, people swimming in the river under the Dawson Bridge and milk delivered by horse drawn wagon.

One of the better shooting ranges is Genesee, about 45 minutes SW of town. Spruce Grove was good at one time but has become unbearingly political plus will be shut down with the next few years.

If you're interested, there is a 'fun shooting match' out at Drayton Valley on August 23.

There's a few of us near Etown. I'm in Africa at the moment, but will be back around the end of Sept. As mentioned, the CHAS range is one of the best ones around Edmonton. - dan
