It's at the roundup center at the Stampede grounds. It's probably the biggest one in Western Canada...nothing like the ones in the States though. I'm going bright and early Friday too.

The .404 J was there until Saturday morning, when I came back to the show and bought it.

Scruffy ,I gather from his Lethbridge show post will be the red neck type looking guy. Chef will be the guy with the apron and wooden spoon and Frans will be the guy with the wooden shoes. What a crew Smiler

Well, the snow has melted off the wooden shoes on the porch... it's been a while since I wore those though! ;-)

We need The Viking to get us some AR badges, like he did for the SCI show. Christer, are you listening? Wink

Scruffy,

What time are you planning on being there? Maybe we can arrange an opportuntiy for you to meet my wife. She'd like to thank you for the bison you sent home with me. We finally got into it this week and loved it.

Heck, I might just wear a dark red shirt, just so y'all can find me. I'll have my 12 year old son with me, who is almost getting to be as tall as I am. Plus I'll be hanging out with Grizz.

We should have done a "3 pm at the Giraffe Bar" trick like we did in Reno.

Yo ! I ran into Calgarychef1, Maki, and ol' Canuck at High Noon. Nice (but too quick of a visit) and then it was time to head out, pockets full of gold, looking for the perfect rifle ! cheers

Hello;
Only person I ran into was Frans and he was sitting right outside the door giving his weary legs a rest. Looked for Chef at the concession at noon, but didn'd see anyone that good looking, or the gals Smiler Did chat up some guy that fit the description, was even looking at a recurve bow, but this guy had grey hair with the red and I didn't think he was that old. Big Grin Looked for Scruffy's Browning hat, but was distracted by all the goodies. They've sure expanded that show. WOW.
I got all the gals. Dragged my beaded buckskin jacket out of mothballs as an afterthought, to look the part and was the center of attention. One even took my picture front and back, but didn't ask fpr my phone number. Big Grin

Grizz, I had just talked to that guy with the recurve...He got a decent deal on it.

Scruffy thanks for the compliment...and the book. It's a good read and I really appreciate it.

I came very very close to buying a 6.5 mann. but I don't like the way the scopes sit so high on them. What a sweet handling rifle!!

The fellow with the longbows could have sold me one in a second but the only one he had for sale had a snakeskin backing. I like plain stuff for hunting, I'd hate to have to worry about it. I'm driving up to his place to shoot a few of his bows though and I anticipate ordering one. His pricing is fantastic and he has a lifetime warranty...something I've never seen on a custom bow.

I would have also bought a muzzle loader but the dude didn't know the rate of twist, nor did he seem to care about answering my other questions. Seems he was too busy yakking to make a sale. Did you see the guy with the signs all over his stuff saying..don't touch, no test pilots etc. He didn't seem to be making many sales either. I guess customer service does matter and I went home again with my pocket of cash.

I had a good time though and it was nice to put a face to some of you guys.

Hey guys,

Sorry to rudely run off at noon! I missed all the lead-in here and didn't realize you guys had actually lined something up to meet in front of the concession. Just thought I was meeting Iceman! Anyway, I was on an extremely short leash that day (only had two and a half hours to see the whole show...girlfriend cooking in car with dogs, waiting to go leather jacket hunting -- a belated x-mas present!) so was anxious to get going. Had $$ burning a whole in my pocket and didn't want to miss anything. Turned out I had to go too quickly through everything anyway and other than loading up on Wipeout and buying a copy of "The Old Man and the Boy" by Ruark, I pretty much went home empty handed.

It was nice to put a face to the name, Chef. Next time I am in Cowtown with an hour or two to spare, I'll try to arrange to buy you a beer.

It was nice to meet you too MattB! Same goes if I make it through Edmonton, or for either of you guys if you ever make it to Cranbrook.

Scruff, thanks for the book, amigo! I look forward to reading it. Smiler

Cheers,
Canuck

In retrospect I must have seen scruffy, with Browning cap and red jacket, and a few characters, round noon at the concession... no handsome bloke with gals on every arm so chef must have been exagerating! Big Grin

Grizz, I will probably need to hire you to do the mudding Wink it's very slow going if you don't know what you are doing.

I actually managed not to buy anything. It was just too busy for my liking and I don't like elbowing my way to the front of the crowd.

Prices seemed to be even higher than last year.

I brought home a brochure about IPSC, and my son and I teamed up to shoot at those bouncing balls at the AHEIA stand. I watched him from the corner of my eye, and he didn't do all that bad for someone who hardly ever shoots.

The kid really had seen enough after about 2.5 hours, and we went home.

Ah Frans, you're probably trying too hard. Smiler I'll try to pop down one night and give you a quick demo. Just remember, the more you put on, the more you gotta sand off Big Grin
After wandering around for a while with my eyes agog, I bought a little Austrian M 95 Stuetzen. Would like to have had that 14.5 mm Russian PTRS for gophers at the far end of the place, but I'm sure I'd be single again, when I got home. Big Grin Also bought a box of .243 ammo, because I wanted the old style plastic box they came in for 4.00 Good investment. Popped one of those little rats on the first shot at 250 yds.
I think that some of the people that sell at thes shows have been smoking some illegal substance. I saw one guy flogging one of those plastic ammo boxes that clip on your belt for $15. Wholesale Sports price $6.95 Couple of dealers there from Ont. inc. Wolverine supplies.

Like most of you I had some time constraints as well. Took me 2.5 hours just to get through the first half of the tables. That left me less than an hour to get through the other half. Should have made a day of it.
The best deal that sticks out in my mind was the Leica LRF 1200 for $600.00 Two different outfits had the same deal, only one was willing to do it GST in.
I was hoping to find a good deal on a used scope for my most recent rifle purchase, a M70 338WM, but at the prices they wanted for used scopes(Leupold,Swaro,Zeiss)I might as well buy new. I guess there was exception, one table had a Schmidt & Bender 4-16x50 Police Marksman II 34mm with rings for $2200 and it its listed at $2,498.95USD at SWFA, so that one was a pretty good deal but it's not the type of scope I had in mind for this rifle.

Is there any dealer out there that gives better prices on Leupold scopes than LeBaron? Or have I found the lowest price already.www.lebaron.ca
