huntstatWant to take Dad on a Moose Hunt in 2012...Suggestions?
I plan to take Dad on a Moose in 2012 in Canada. He is in fair shape but can not walk all day. He needs a situation that a vehicle/boat can get him to the field then glass, spot and stalk. I know Newfoundland has a lot of moose but that is about it. I would appreciate suggestions and outfitters that would do a good job for us. Thanks so very much

Tim HeraldHow would horseback be with very minimal walking? I have hunted a place twice in BC that is 100% on very nice moose averaging over 50" (Canada moose)that is not physically demanding at all if you can ride. You stay in cabins, etc. Also, you can add Mt Caribou or Mt Goat for only a $2000 trophy fee. Shoot me an email to tim@timherald.com if this sounds like it might work for you...

martinbnsNFLD is basically rocks and bog, not easy to walk.
I would do a hunt in Central Alberta, farm country, good bulls abound. Lots of guys use quads to go from spot to spot then sit and call.

SkylineYou could also look at a boat hunt if horses are not in your Dad's vocabulary. There are a number of good outfitters that can offer this in northern Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Much depends on your budget as to options available.
You can PM me if you want to discuss it further.

www.yukonsheep.com There is absolutely no question that this would be my choice. I have hunted with Tim on three separate occasions (02, 05, and 08) and he is the very definition of a truly great outfitter. He is honest, hard working, and boy does he get results!

friarmeierCall True North Outfitters in Ontarior, and ask for Jay. Tell him Chris Meier & David Grell recommended them to you.
Will fit your father's needs very well. I went in 2008 and we shot 3 out of 4 moose/hunters. My friend went again in 2010 and him, his dad, and his brother shot 2 of 3 moose.
All arrangements were excellent, from A to Z. Couldn't be happier.

AnotherAZWriterI think the question is "what kind of moose do you want? Alaska-Yukon are much larger than Canada moose, but IMO BC Canada moose are bigger than the eastern variety found in Ontario. Alberta has some cheap hunts, but the racks don't impress me.

Northman56751Some more questions are:
Budget?
Location........does it matter?
Trophy or meat hunt?
Just an FYI.......if either of you have EVER been convicted of a DUI, don't even think about trying Canada. It is considered a felony there.

LittleJoeBonnet Plume is top notch. Stan & Bart Lancaster (Kawdy Outfitters), hunted with them several times. Rogue River is top notch as well; now operated by Jim Shockey.

I believe you can get clearance to enter Canada if you have an old DUI on your record(in some cases). You apply in advance and jump through a hoop or two.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.
Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

jcjrTry Stone Mountain Safaris out of BC and ask for the Ram Mountain Camp, lots of big bulls in there. They killed a 66" out there last year and I have killed three out of that one camp. One scored 204 and the other one was 197 and was 56". All horse back hunt

hunt99Check out babineguides.com near Smithers, BC. Lloyd and Jack Hooper are great young guides and would be able to put together a hunt perfectly tailored to your situation.

Whatever you decide, make a trip to remember. Choose exactly what you want to do and pay for it. The memory will be worth it.
I missed my chance when dad was too frail to go...

siceroSome outfitters put a lot of things in their brochurs that are out and out lies.
If at all possible recomendation from a personal friend that has gone more than once is best.
Some guys ask for a list of all hunters for the last two years or they don't go. If you bow hunt, don't go with a guide that has not harvested more than one of the target animal with a bow. If you haven't done it, you know nothing about it.
Don't go with Parsons Pond Newfoundland. Spent 3 entire days walking to outpost camps and wasted 2 days laying around the main camp.
Out of a seven day hunt, that don't leave much. My bowhunting guide knew absolutely nothing about bow hunting. A very hard working guy but he never quit talking or clearing his throat the whole time. In Newfoundland, the guide has to be right with the hunter. Not even 100yds away.
I also went on a bear hunt where the outfitter sold his business after we booked. The new owner had no baits out. He give us some meat and donuts and a few buckets. The Government does not regulate how they do business in Canada. Probably not in US either. Kenny
