I have apair of thierinsulated hunters" Very good boots, for general hunitng, but they lack the ankle support of serious mountain boots. I like them because the fi my wide feet. I have got a pair of Charles Van Gorkum boots being made for me...$$$$$$$$ but I hear they are worth it. I love Meindals for thier ankle support, but they are too narrow for my EEEE+ wide feet, and I hope the Van Gorkum boots help with that!! 375 Ruger- The NEW KING of the .375's!!

I never wear leather boots hunting. The muskeg in central Alberta is killer on them. In the spring/fall I wear Cebo rubber boots. They are Czech made, with steel toes and insoles and heavy rubber re-inforced protective sides, tops. The Cebos' were the boot of choice amongst roughnecks and loggers in Alberta, back in the day, but they are no longer available in Canada due to excessive duties imposed on them. When I learned that they were not being brought in I bought up a bunch of them. I've got a lifetime supply... With a pair of bama socks (to wick away moisture) they are great. I wear 'em until the temps drop into the -5C range. Once November roles around I wear either Rocky Snow Stalkers or Sorel Snow Bears. The Rockys are good to about -20C and are less bulky, so are better for hiking. The Sorels are huge and are terrible to walk in but great for sitting and enduring in the deep cold, like when the temps get stupidly cold below -20C.

I have a pair of Vibergs that I used to use a lot for work (as a forester). I found they didn't provide enough support for my ankles when sidehilling all day, or coming down steep slopes. So I switched to a mountaineering style boot, and after wearing out a bunch of them have found myself going back to Meindles every time. That said, the Viberg's were a solid well-constructed boot. I used them for a few seasons and they are still in really good shape. Cheers, Canuck
