Maybe Labour Day weekend would be a good time to go into the states, buy a years supply of reloading components in one shot and return home. From what I've read, the Canadian Customs officers are going to wave people with purchases on through during the holiday. Apparently they are only paid about half as much as their U.S. counterparts, and they're quite disturbed by it, and are declaring Labour Day as a duty free weekend. Damn, I only hope it's true. You guys heard about this? Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

Cal You can get lapua from Peter Dobson at the following link http://www.hirschprecision.com/ As for the rest of it I have to agree it is pretty tough. I won a shilen barrel at a match this year and will probably get a permit so I can bring in some bullets at the same time. Can't get a lot of powders in Alberta right know. Something to do with D.O.T. regs and no one haveing a truck that meets with the requirements. Does anyone know if it is true that the U.S laws at the border for export don't apply if you are an American citizen?

The laws are US laws, and apply to anyone exporting from thier country, regardless of citizenship. That's what the guy in the hat at the border told me. - Dan

In a country of 30 million I'd think I could pretty well order my reloading supplies locally. Yet, if I want Berger bullets, Redding or Wilson die bushings, or Lapua and VihtaVouri components, I have to order them in Canada and then wait a couple months while they are in turn ordered from the U.S. I don't order direct from the U.S. (Sinclair and Midway) anymore because of the import/export licensing requirement. It's reached bordering on disgusting. Is there an easier way to go about this or do we simply have to live with it? Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

Up where your at Cal there are a couple of ways to get what you want. You can get a U.S. citizen to pick the stuff up for you and when they come up here on vacation they can drive it across for you as U.S. citizen's are only given a cursory (sp?) check unless they look like gangsters. Or you can go down to one of the reserve's and pay a premium and have a native get them for you. These may not be the most above board ways of getting what you want but they do work. Yep, it's a US export thing not a Canadian import thing. And about being stopped at the border (coming into CDN)...I've never had problems driving across at Couts. Twice I was by myself, once with the family. Last time (few weeks ago) we actually got asked to show our Permanent Residents card. The other two times I didn't even have to show that. I guess it all depends on the time of day, the mood of the officer, the impression you make. When I returned from Reno this winter, I couldn't even answer the question when I entered the US. It went something like this: "When did you enter the United States?" "eh...I don't know...let me see..what day is today?" Utterly blank look from the officer... "eh...let's see..today is Sunday isn't it, no Monday, so I must have entered....eh...5 or six days ago...Monday, Sunday, Saturday, Friday, Thursday, Wednesday...that's it , must have been Wednesday!" Utterly disgusted and dumbfumbled look by now... He must have thought I was dumber than a donkey's ass, and must have praid for stricter immigration laws, to keep idiots like me out... But he let me back in nevertheless. Frans
