Well, I am starting a long range plan. I have told my son (first year in college in Wildlife Management) that when he gets done in a few years we will do a Caribou hunt. Would appreciate suggestioins of outfitters, and feedback of your prior hunts. pics always appreciated. I am thinking Quebec, but other areas are open if price is reasonable. By the way, looking for a guided hunt. thanks Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

i went on one in quebec in 2000. i went with Laurenteen ungava outfitters/twin river lodge. i dont think they are in business anymore. i was very disappointed in the hunt. there was supposed to be 6 hunters per 2 guides in camp. they had 13 hunters per the 2 guides. the only thing the guides did was take 2 hunters up or down river, tell them to sit there, then go back for 2 more hunters and drop them off until all were along the river. if you were last out or last to be picked up you lost 2 hrs of "hunting". everybody got 1 cow and that was it. i spoke with a labrador guide at the airport on the way back. he said that in labrador there is a law that says no more then 2 hunters per guide. there is no simaler law in quebec. he also said labrador is allowed mobile camps to go to the migration. he said quebec law is that camps must be fixed. i dont know if all this is true, but something to ask the outfitters. the laws may have changed by now. also, check out the north american hunting club bulletin board. there are a couple threads in the big game section about safari nordik not honoring their 2 bull guarentee.

My father, brother and I hunted with Ungava Adventures a couple years back. We all shot 2 big bulls each, a couple were really good. We hunted in a 3 on 1 situation and had a great time. We hit the migration absolutely perfectly and sht all of our bulls by the end of the second day, leaving a lot of time for the excellant lake trout and brook trout fishing. The only thing I would take into consideration is that if you drive to Montreal, do what they say and put your vehicle in the locked area at the hotel immediately, ours was stolen less than 5 minutes after we unloaded it. Other than that snafu it was a great trip that I would do again. P.S. we went in late August when they were in velvet. Ben

I hunted Quebec with Mirage Outfitters last year and would do it again in a heartbeat. We missed the migration but still saw animals and most of the guys filled both of their tags. All the camp staff worked hard and did their jobs, everything was smooth and well-organized, a top-notch outfit. I had done a lot of internet and phone research beforehand, and I'm glad that I chose them. John

My son and I hanted at Caribou adventure and did the drive to base hunt 22 hours of gravel road. The road was real bad and the hunt was great. Everyone in my camp got 2 bulls although the migration was not on. We had no guide but a topo map. We plan to go again this year but will scip the drive and fly from Montreal. It is about $1000 more to fly but after a windshield and 3 truck tires the price seeme better. one of us

I have never hunted caribou with these guys but do know the manager Steve Ashton. They have been featured on a number of hunting shows. Several friends have hunted with them and report a great experience. Good website here. http://www.arcticadventures.ca/
