Anyone heard of The Bear Company/ Savage encounters. I will not bore you by reposting my earlier Black bear hunt inquiry.....I have my choices down to three. I came across this outfit. They seem well advertised but I couldn't find any reviews or testimonials. Good or bad. Thanks.....

I have not heard of Savage Encounters but I am familiar with Jim Shockey www.jimshockey.com The nicest looking Black Bears I have ever seen are from Northern Vancouver Island where Shockey guides, the bears are coal black nose to tail and beautiful pelts. The price looks a little steep but being a resident here I can buy a tag for about $20.00 I shouldn't show you guy's this but here is the link to some of Shockey's photo's http://www.jimshockey.com/bear.asp

I just spoke with Jim Shockey about two weeks ago at a local outdoors show. I have also been in the bush in almost all of his areas, except the Yukon. His operations are directed at the wealthier, older hunter and there is no question that you will have a very fine, albeit pricey, hunt should you book with him. Many well-known American gun writers hunt with Shockey and seem to be quite pleased with his operation. If, you are looking for alternatives, I suggest that you log on to this site...WWW.goabc.org... and check with some of the outfitters in the Kootenays. You may find a hunt there that fits your criteria and you also have a good chance of seeing a Grizzly while hunting Blackies. There are lots of bears, beautiful country and, IMO, nicer spring weather. Good luck!
