So my Dad wants to buy a new scope.
He punches in "Calgary bass pro" on the net. He sees a Vari XII 3-9X40 for $329. He does the online order(then checks his CC statement and sees he was charged $479). They reply to his email order saying "we cannot send scopes across border", but they charged his CC just the same.......His wife phones the Calgary store and asks whats goin on? They tell her "we cannot export scopes" she says Calgary is in Alberta! they say the online orders come from the states, she says "do you have any in stock?" they say "yup" but we cant send it to you (prohibited shipping).
She then says, why did a $329 scope cost us $479? The guy says, "well those prices are in USD + GST your order comes to $479.
Well I aint no math wizard but 3% exchange on $329 + 5% GST surely the hell dont come to $479, so she cancels the order........what a joke

I was afraid of something like that when I bought a broadhead sharpener, so I phoned Calgary first. They told me their site mails from the US, but Calgary still sold me the sharpening stone and sent it to me direct(to Lethbridge).
They should tell people not to oder from their website if it ships from the US.

Just thank your Canadian government for protecting you by not allowing scopes to be shipped across the border. I can only imagine how many murders would be committed if scopes were sent north. Crime would skyrocket! Roll Eyes

I dont know for sure, but I think its the US gov. that dont allow it.

I've "snuck" scopes across through the mail, the one that didnt make it was returned to shipper by the US customs.

Not only that, everything I have ordered from the US has been inspected by US customs (Green sticker), not one sticker ever from CAN customs.

The US won't allow them to be shipped, nothing to do with Canada. The US attitude(state dept?) is absolutely retarded.

Norton, you foolish little badger doody, when are you going to LEARN the facts of a situation BEFORE shooting your mouth off about it?

It is YOUR government, NOT OURS, which has caused this foolish situation, so, STFU and GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!

As others have mentioned, its perfectly legal to import rifle scopes into Canada. The US State Department has restricted their export from the US.

In order to do it, the seller in the US has to get an export permit. They are apparently quite expensive and a big hassle. As a result, it has limited the number of companies willing to do it and then usually only for large orders to wholesalers on this side.

Oh, no, mate, the rot of socialism, feminism, multiculturalism and gayism has gone throughout the "Old Commonwealth" and our traditions and freedoms are as compromised by scumsucking vermin in politics here as in "Oz", "Kiwi" and especially "dear old Blighty".

But, we have only ourselves to blame as we ACCEPT this kind of destruction and cheer on the end of Western Civilization....apparently, in "California" now, in the supposed "land of the free", one csnnot even possess a double-sided knife, such as a "Fairbairn-Sykes"........

Notice, tho', that violent crimes are hardly EVER committed now in our once-proud nations?????

Just go on EBAY and find a seller who'll ship to Canada, no problems. I've ordered a few from there.
Department of Homeland Security sets up checkstops at the CAN/US border, just before Canadian Customs. If you get caught with ANY type of gun part, they'll confiscate and fine I'm told.

Green sticker is Customs declaration, put on by shipper not customs. It just states the articles in the package and value for tax purpose.

Um nope.....sprayandpay sounds like you got a fair bit to learn about "importing".

The sticker I am talking about is put there by US customs, it sataes that the package has been opened & inspected, and either passes or doesnt pass inspection.

In regards to your claim that "shop ebay & find someone to ship to Canada", your wrong again, it dont matter WHO will ship a scope to Canada......ITS ILLEGAL!!!

Almost any swinging dik will ship to Canada once you ask them too (and agree to pay the extra shipping). But know this, If your package is not cleared (I know 1st hand, its happened to me), unless you strike up a deal with the seller & your scope doesnt get passed, you just ate the cost of the scope; as they ship it back to the sender. I know what I'm talking about, I've been getting stuff sent from the states for over 10 yrs.

Didn't say it was legal for them to ship a scope. I've never had any problems.
I usually communicate with the seller via e-mail,etc. A lot depends on what they put on the customs declaration.
Trigger=lever
knife=precision instrument
pistol grips= micarta samples
scope=optical instrument
lead bullets= castings

None of these are a false declaration.

You must be on their list, I've never had anything coming to Canada opened by US Customs. 90% of my stuff is gun related.
About 25% of the stuff has been inspected by Canada Customs and then been given a duty/tax charge.
Not sure why US Customs would be interested in outbound mail. Maybe you mean Department of Homeland Security?

I have things worded accordingly, alot of gun parts you can get by with.

But a scope is a scope, any dum shit knows what they are & look like, and when they open it....ITS GONE

I also know of a guy who was getting gun parts shipped up here, he got busted & is now up on charges, for knowingly trying to import illegal parts, the poor innocent seller is up on the same charges but for exporting.

I dont bother anymore, as the chances aren't worth it, if I cant get it up here, I go throught the legal channels to get it done.

Yup, it seems pretty foolish to me for anyone to suggest illegal acts here on a forum of this type. I also hate the situation concerning parts, optics and guns from the USA and deplore the Bush administration's actions in this regard, but, breaking the law is simply not on, for me, anyway.

Fortunately, we are getting some importers here who can and will obtain stuff for us and, who knows, maybe these difficulties will motivate Canadians to re-establish our domestic firearms industry...."Kling-Kore Softpoints"....yeah!
