According to the Government of Manitoba 2007 Hunting Guide, only non-resident aliens (non-Canadian) need a guide. Non-resident Canadians don't appear to need to a guide. You can read the full rules and regulations at http://www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/wildlife/hunting/print.html

A Non-Resident Canadian hunting in Alberta just needs a friend/in-law to hunt with, I'm pretty sure.

Non-Residents need a guide.

Nope, you can get a non-resident alien to hunt with you on a Hunter Host license too. Tag availability is different for aliens.

As Franz says, Hunter Host licenses are available, for up to two people on one HH. You can only do this every two years. I did it for a couple of friends in '03 (whitetails, moose, bison, wolf), and another in '06 (whitetails, wolf and moose. - dan
