I'm looking to take my 16 year old son bear hunting next spring. Around the middle of June next year. Anybody have any ideas on a good area and outfitter. Thank You. Jeff

In Alberta bear season closes June 15 (in the Northern areas), so you'll have to be a bit earlier. What kind of hunt are you looking for? Baited or spot-stalk?

I just love to bait bears.I would rather bait than shoot, but my son has not taken one yet. I was hoping to find an outfitter close to the southern Quebec boarder. I have a place in the upper peninsula of Mich. and would drive from there. I did Ontario for years until they closed the spring season on us.

Can't help on Quebec.............northern Manitoba is open until the end of June. I shot a bear with a 20 inch skull up there last year (I Live in southern Manitoba) near the end of June and the hide was still good.

The whitetail hunting is good. There are some really big deer, I know a buck hanging around that I have seen a couple times that will easily score 180+ net........mind you I have only seen him at 4am, long before shooting light, on my way to put hunters on stand.

Average mature bucks will be between 130 and 160. Big bodies. When you see a big mature buck here they dwarf the does and a 150 rack does not look too impressive on them.

I have just returned from Quebec and got a real nice black bear with my bow. With me completing their 2006 spring season, they were 100% for bears. There were two father/son teams prior to my arrival and one boy got a very nice bruiser boar with almost no teeth. It was a very old bear and quite large.

Drop me a line and I can provide you with details. The fishing is very good too, walleye, northerns and sturgeon.

On June 21 I shot a 300-pounder at Long Lake Adventures in New Brunswick. Not Quebec. Beautiful bear: dense fur with no mange or rubbing, good teeth and good claws. The outfitter is Clay Harrison. A very good bet. The closest town is Plaster Rock, just across the line from Maine.

Let's light this little fuse, here, and see what happens
