Good Luck on your hunt! What part of Alberta are you hunting? I was hunting right outside of Hinton last year at this time & saw plenty of nice Moose, but I was hunting Elk & Whitetail.
I leave Wednesday morning as well but this year I'm off to Manitoba for Fall Black Bear. I sure do envy you guys that live in Canada, man what a place!!

Just got back from 356, sounds like you were in the same zone? A departing moose answered to my cow call by turning broadside, and that was all what was needed.
Were off into WMU 528 and WMU 520. Heavy frost in town last nite...should of been there this morning. Oh well its tommorrow anyways when we leave...if everything goes as planned, we will be off by 10am, and should have camp up and get the evening hunt in.
A friend called in a nice bull down the Chinchaga Road yesterday. He said they sure are going nuts right now. It was like the switch was flipped on yesterday he said, b/c the days before there was nothing.
I'll say how things went when we get back.
I'm OUT OF HERE! Done work for rest of day...later

Yep, we had rain Friday/Saturday, and nothing really came to the call. More rain in the forecast, roads getting pretty dicy. So I took the chance that was given, though I'd have loved to have stayed out, looking for something bigger. Just my luck, the weather cleared right after I shot, and the frost hit, and now apparently the rut really gets going. Ah well, there's always next time!
That meat sure is going to be good, he was a nice clean bull, not smelly, musky, or what have you at all.
A big thanks to the Calgarychef for helping with the cutting up!!
Frans I have one of the roasts in the oven right now. I dry rubbed it with rosemary, thyme, and black pepper last night. That and some home grown carrots and beans-it should be nice.
Heck, I'm still freezing it! My freezer has the darndest problems getting things cold enough. I'm now putting batches in my small kitchen freezer that seems to be more able, and might have to rotate new batches into that one from time to time.
I'm glad the meat is good. From the complete lack of strong smell I reckoned it would be, but of course I never had moose before. I hope this stuff will freeze soon, and that it didn't suffer too much.
Frans!!! Good on you !!! I've shot enough moose to know that if I can't get a honker of a bull (and I never have, yet) .. it is much better to get a wee one ....

We just got back from 358, we heard very littel calling and the family groups were still together. I got this guy, I was watching a group of 5, a big cow, a small bull, a small cow and two calves. The small bull was licking up the small cow, the large cow was ignoring them all looking at me as I got closer, finally at about 250 yards the big guy came out, he wasn't even a little put out by the presence of the spike bull.
