Hi fellow Albertans!

As you know, Alberta hunt draw applications are due by June 24th.

I am officially a non-resident and need a buddy to "apply with me only" in order to be drawn for a hunt.

Criteria:
1. Must be Alberta Resident
2. Must have same # or greater of preference points as me
3. Be willing to apply to hunt for this fall

No Obligation:
1. We apply together (I will be 2nd WiN #)
2. We do NOT necessarily have to hunt together (though, if looking for a buddy, I'd want to get to know you etc. way before the hunt)
3. When drawn, if you do not want to hunt with me, I can legally hunt with my friend who has a Hunter Host license but not enough points to draw

Please note that I'm looking to apply for:
ANTLERED MULE DEER (I have 4 points)
ANTLERED ELK (I have 4 points)

If you are applying for either of those species, have the same or greater points, please P.M. me and we'll get in touch. We have to apply for the same WMU, I am flexible on that as there are many great areas withing each WMU.

Stubblejumber, Chuck, Frans, Dan- please,m if you know of anyone (or you personally) that has enough points, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Cheers,
CL

I don't have as many points for mule deer and I already applied for antlerless elk.I usually hunt elk with a general tag and every 4 years or so I take an antlerless tag.

Thanks for the quick replies Smiler

Chuck, enjoyed speaking with you too...maybe another year!

Stubblejumper, I appreciate the effort, we'll also have to hook up for a dinner or hunt sometime too. Looks like I might have to go out to Saskatchewan for WTs this year.

Cheers,
CL

Sorry Lefty, no can do. I've got two points for mule deer, and two for WMU 300 elk. None for regular antlered elk. I'm looking at a moose hunt up North next year, will save my mule deer points for that too. Got some US draws on the go, and of course this might be the year I draw for goat! And with the bears fooling me again this spring, I'm seriously thinking of trying to chase one down this fall. I think I'll be doing a lot of 999's

But of course if I draw for desert bighorn I'll have to save all my time and resources for that! ;-)

hi, please excuse my butting in on your conversation, but you guys could maybe answer a question.
i"m a UK resident, but i hunted in New Brunswick in 96 and 97 on a non-resident antlered deer tag. a relative guided for me, i think it was called a class 2 guide, like a hunter host.
if i wanted to hunt moose or elk in Alberta,
can i just buy a license for antlered moose or elk? i"ve read the Alberta regs online, but they refer to non residents and non resident aliens, it"s all a bit complicated(maybe i"m not very bright!)
i know i still need a guide or host, but the license is my main problem.
(and if anyone wants to swap for a few days mixed duck, pheasant and fallow deer in Northern Ireland, then speak up now before i give out a load of cash to a guide!)
good shooting

The regs for a non-resident alien apply to you. I seem to remember that you can buy over-the-counter tags for the species you mentioned and hunt the zones that have a non-draw season.
You also need to apply for a WIN card; your Hunter Host should do that for you, or the outfitter will take care of that. In case you go through an outfitter, you do not need to worry about tags. The outfitter holds the tags for the zone(s) he hunts in and the species he hunts for.

What are you talking about?

Chuck

I'm still talking about this country not looking after its own brethren from other provinces before looking after people from other countries..If an ontarian wants to go to the west to hunt its made no easier for him than someone from another country...And it pisses me off..We are the only ones who dont look after our own first

It is easier as well as cheaper, and if you don't like it move. If I wanted hunting privilages in Ontario I'd move there. But don't expect me any time soon.

Paid taxes, lobied for tags, seasons, or donated to our wildlife management lately? And if you really want to get down to the nitty gritty, I can sure tell you what the East has done to make my hunting and firearms ownership (as a life long resident of AB) much more difficult. With friends like you............

hey, don"t get excited, it"s getting to be the same everywhere. here in Northern Ireland a pariticular "sporting" organisation is closing up all the deer stalking they can get to sell it to Germans(at the expense of people who may have had the right to this land for years)
unfortunately it"s all down to money and politics nowadays. Canada is a wonderful place to hunt(or even just be outdoors), i enjoyed the 2 winters i spent there very much, but you"re getting regulated and commercialised like everyone else. for anyone who has"nt got good local hunting or access to public land, then join the rest of us in the real world!

Brass Thief

To hunt in Alberta, you would be classified as a non-resident alien. This means you would have to hunt thru a licensed Outfitter, using one of his allocations for the species of game you wish to hunt. You will still need to purchase your WIN card, and applicible licenses.

You cannot apply for any of the draws.

THe only way to be able to hunt in Alberta w/o an outfitter, is thru a Hunterhost set up but the Hunterhost must be of relation ( Father, son, uncle, etc..)
This is very hard do do for a non-resident alien. But can be done. This is highly watched.

There is no need for the Hunter Host to be related. Only if a Hunter Host has two "guests" at the same time, one of them has to be related.

From:
http://www.albertaoutdoorsmen.org/huntingregs/

A Hunter Host:

Must be an adult resident.
Must be the holder of a valid Hunter Host Licence (below).
may not provide services for gain or reward, or accept remuneration, directly or indirectly, for such services.
may host a maximum of two (2) hunters/year, either Non-residents (Canadian), Non-resident Aliens or a combination thereof. If hosting 2 Non-resident Aliens, at least 1 must be a relative.
may host Non-resident Aliens only if the host has not hosted a Non-resident Alien in the previous two (2) fiscal years (April 1 to March 31).
must report to the Fish and Wildlife Divison by December 31 in the year of harvest, all animals killed by the Non-resident Aliens he or she hosted.
must accompany the hunter(s) named on his or her Hunter Host Licence while they are hunting big game under the authority of the Hunter Host Licence.

As Frans pointed out, you don't need to be a relative, and actually, the paperwork is quite simple, I've done this myself a number of times (being a Hunter Host). You can only do it every two years tho', which with the odd way the Alberta F&G people keep a calender really means it will be the third year before you can do it a second time. FWIW - dan

You guys are correct about the no relative and the 2 years wait inbetween.

As reguards to your draw priority, me and my hunting buddies have been all drawn every year since moose tag been at draw. Maybe its just luck! The zone you must be applying in must be in the farm land area. Its harder to draw this tag.

Sorry bud. I got drawn for mule deer last year. I'm only priority 4 on moose, and 1 and 2 on antelope and cow elk. If you go south, into WMU's 400 and 402, bull elk is a general tag. Good luck.

Hey Lefty;Good choice on the 999 if you are unsure. With all the points you have for moose, you would be a sure draw in any of the WMU's around here. I would try to find a WMU with general elk and muley tags which also has good moose prospects. Then I would put in my moose draw for that area and be able to hunt everything without using up any of your other points. Last moose draw I had I passed on a bull one evening, then when we went looking for him the next morning we shot a nice 5x5 bull elk in the same cutblock the moose was in the evening before. Just a thought; Papershredder

Great idea Papershredder. I might just do that. If you care to share any WMUs with some pockets of Moose and general tags for Mulies and Elk, drop me a P.M. Or Ph. #. I will call you on my dime.

Pharaoh2, 4 points for Moose is what I will have for next year. Is Moose on your radar screen anytime soon?

Thanks to all, please let's all keep in touch.

Cheers,
CL
