I'm thinking more and more about retiring to some property we have out of Smithers-at least for the summers. My question: Does anyone know how difficult dual citizenship might be? What if I want to ever hunt a moose around our place? Maybe a good immigration attorney is who I should talk to but I wanted to ask this forum.
Thanks,
Blixen

Dual citizenship IS possible here in Canada, the current leader of the gun-banning Liberal Party of Canada had it, Canadian by birth and FRENCH by choice.....The Governor-General, picked by this Liberal's predecessor and a Haitan immigrant, who calls Haiti, "home"publicly while on an "official"visit, also had dual Canadian-French citizenship..............

Canadians, who are people BORN in Canada and many naturalized Canadian citzens, who have exactly the same rights, tend, IME, to be pretty cool toward the ideal of "dual citizenship"and see it as a means of exploiting Canada and our never-ending patience with newcomers. BUT, it IS currently LEGAL.

As to your residency requirements concerning hunting big game; you MUST make your HOME in B.C. for the SIX MONTHS of the year prior to applying for a hunting licence. This means, your ...principal home..., according to the current Hunting Regulations Synopsis and they DO check these things, as they should.

So, IF, you live on your place for six months and have a current B.C. Driver's Licence PLUS the B.C. Hunter's No., obtained by passing a CORE exam or exchanging your other provincial and some state hunting diplomas for it, you CAN obtain a "residents" hunting licence for Moose.

Be aware that a VERY high profile Guide-Outfitter, a foreigner, was recently convicted of offences concerning residency in Smithers AND last April was also convicted of further Wildlife Act violations in Mackenzie, B.C. The subsequent uproar over this seems to have resulted in his deciding to sell "his" GO territory and leave.....

B.C. is rapidly changing and even the North is not what it used to be, in terms of a "laissez faire" attitude toward hunting and all the legalities concerned with it. So, make sure that you check and obey the regualtions, as they ARE enforced. Hope this helps you, the situation can be intimidating to one not familiar with it!
