That is digusting. These guy's should have been reported to local Fish and Wildlife Officers. It is unfortunate that you got involved with a 'bogus' guide and his con. I would bet hands down that this Mark guy is probably a poacher with a criminal record as long as your arm. I hope you receive a refund. People like that just infuriate me. I can only imagine how you feel.

Well, you've got enough ammunition, but I doubt GOABC will do anything for you. It is a guides and outfitters group, geared to protect guides and outfitters, not customers.

You might want to contact the Crown Prosecutor and discuss a fraud case.

HLOY CRAP!! The dude's a JERK! A business of that nature only survives on happy customers. I see an area coming up for sale rather quickly.

Hey Crout and George,

Good ideas and information.
I will do it today.

I would hate to see my brethren from this forum get taken, like I did.

Thanks,
Trophyman

I am truly sorry to hear of your experience. I doubt that the GOABC will do anything about your complaint. Nevertheless, this information needs to be disseminated as widely as possible to see if this guy can be eased out of his concession.

I too am very sorry to hear of the horrendous treatment the two of you, plus all the other patrons, received. It is unconscionable! As mentioned by GeorgeS, I would seek some legal advice.
I am sure that there are more good outfitters, than bad, and hope you, and the rest of my 'friends' on ARF never run into the bad.

I enjoy reading the good stories on here, because the chances of me ever going on guided hunt are somewhere between nil and none...please keep the stories coming.

I, too, empathize with you....and would like to share the amazingly wonderful experience I had with an Alaska outfitter (Richard Gardner of Delta Junction). Several years ago, I paid a deposit on a caribou hunt with him, but 1 month before the hunt, my son attempted suicide. Richard offered to allow me to hunt a later year, with no loss of money. I went the next year, but on a ATV 2 miles up the mountain to the camp, was thrown from the ATV and badly dislocated my right shoulder. I was finished. Richard could not have been more solicitous...making rock bridges in streams downhill for me to walk across, and himself walking in the water beside me to help me in case of a misstep....quickly arranging (via satellite phone) air pickup and medical clinic attention. He was endlessly supportive ...and put me up at his home after leaving the local clinic. Although I love Alaska, it is doubtful I will return. If I do, it will be to hunt with Richard Gardner (an amazing guy, incredibly resourceful, competent, and friendly). He outfits for moose as well, and we saw many many, moose in rivers we overflew to his caribou hunt area.

Richard Gardner is the kind of guy that makes outfitters shine. Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Hope your son is doing well, too.
I will look Mr. Gardner up and see if I can get a moose with a "good guy".

Thanks for the positive information.

The outfitter and company needs to be punished. It would seem to me that after 2 days you should have done something about the conditions, like cornering this MARK fellow, not let him just make an ass out of your group. It seems that you had transportation, so a small fire would have gotten some attention, especially the cook house and outhouse. Some of the conditions were left go on to long. Leaving early was the wrong choice, because it left the outfitter off the hook. You should have tied the guy MARK to a tree overnight without any clothes, this may have gotten his full attention.

Hi Darin,
Great buck from the island by the way!!
Glad I got to see it on the page here.
A buddy of mine in Colorado made the arrangements for us. He got boondoggled. Thought the guy was trustworthy. Turned out not to be the case, huh? It was completely opposite of the experience I had with you and the group in Canada in May. What a great trip that was. Wish I could make it back.

Gunbug,
Nope. It was for two nights. It was at the Sandman Hotel. Clean. Nice staff. Connected to Denny's. Beat staying in the terrible camp with no game, though. So, I'm not complaining about it at all.
