Rifle scopes are not restricted to be purchased from the USA, however both Bass Pro and Cabelas will not sell any gun parts which includes riflescope to a canadian ship to:. It is their policy not a government issue. In regards to mail order I was told by bass pro no seperate catalogue with canadian prices will be available at first but will be looked at for the future. However mail orders would be accepted potentially processed through the TO store...again take it for what it is worth but I took it to mean anything in their entire catalogue would be available to canadians unlike now(meaning scopes, gun parts and ammo). I was thinking of when open calling them for canuck prices and ordering over the phone if in stock. I have done this with other stores/shops and have had no problems. I guess we'll have to wait and see if it helps us other area guys any to have basspro in GTA.

Quote: Bass Pro will not be able to circumvent the laws of either country. I don't know what the current law is, but recently (two years ago?) the U.S. government would not allow the export of any mil-dot optics because of their tactical potential. You gotta understand ... the Crtien government did little to endear us to our neighbors to the south. kk

I agree Basspro are expensive on most things compared to Cabelas. 'Bout the only time I buy anything there is on sale. Ordering scopes into Canada could be a problem with the US govt. I think any scope greater than 2X requires an export license because the US considers it "military hardware".

According to my inquiry most riflescope are not considered restricted equipment for a personal use into canada. One customs person I spoke with said no delays, the other said minor delays could result. However they both stated typical time is 1-6 weeks for any personal item sent USPS/Canada Post till delivery. Neither stated any forms or requirements to order a scope (again personal use)! Will BP be a good thing for outside of TO guys, only time will tell I guess.

So, for personal use, rifle scopes are not restricted but if it's for commercial use (like if your a hired hitman) they are restricted, got it .

Like any Govt. agency, the Canada Customs does have at least a few lying scumbags! Case in point, I sent a couple of old VHS tapes to a friend in the US to tape a few programs from TOC for me since our wonderful govt. won't allow that network into Canada. My friend stated on the declairation that it was a VHS tape and for insurance value worth $6. Some prick at CC relabeled it and declared it worth $40 and then applied the PST and GST,duty and even a handling fee of $5. These people have shown that they cannot any longer be trusted, so ship at your own risk! derf

After 9/11 the Us govt tried to get most of the world to agree to a treaty to restircit international trade in small arms except through dealers. Guess which country is the only other one that signed on, Canada. A store is not allowed to ship anything that attaches to or improves the operation of a firearm except to a dealer with an import permit. I tried to buy a scope ;ast year rom a couple of differetn places and they said it was a Canadian law, i call CCRA and they guy explained it to me. bear basin outfitters told me they could ship the Leupold scope to Afghanistan if my name was bin laden but not to Canada.
