I almost always hang out in the African forum.

I have never hunted in Canada but told my friend I would try and get an answer for him.
My friend hunted there in '05 and took a couple of Bear. He had them made into rugs and the outfitter said he would ship them down here to Texas for him. The outfitter called sometime back and said they were ready and he would send them. Well time passes and my friend calls the outfitter and he says that Customs will not let them go across the border. The hunt was conducted with a registered guide, real hunting company, everything is on the up and up. These are tanned, finished and ready rugs to be displayed in his trophy room.

What reasons would Canada have for not letting these rugs come across into the US? Any help would be great.

It is "NOT" the Canadian Customs. It is the U.S. Customs. Customs are involved with things coming into their country, not normally with going out. If you were shipping out of the U.S. to Canada then it would be Canada Customs. Hope this clears for you. Contact your customs at the border crossing to find out the regulations for importing game hides.

bull If they were legally killed in Canada, all he has to do is get a CITES export permit and ship them through a designated port of entry, pay the $55 inspection fee and that is pretty much it. He may not have the required U.S. F&W import/export permit or other Canadian permits that U.S. requires.

P.M. me if needed. I am fully licensed to ship into the U.S. if I have the legal kill papers.
