does not help me sleep at all! I'm leaving tomorrow for a Dall trip to the NWT with Stan Stevens. It's been a wild emotional ride for me. I killed a Dall in 2005 in the Brooks Range, shot the first one the guide said was legal, boom, hunts over, and it turns out was the smallest in camp (it was double broomed and about 11years). When I got home I began dreaming of a MONSTER dall, and solicited advice on this and other forums, finally ending up for several reasons with Stan Stevens. Between then and now, I kinda cooled off in interest, thinking that: 1) I already have a Dall, maybe should save up several years more and get a Stone, and 2) using up alot of good-will points with the wife on a greater that two week hunt, again. Well, suffice it to say, that I'm nutty with anticipation now and can't wait to go! I think I have five planes to make over a two day period before I reach main camp. The back pack has been repacked many, many times, and I'll likely do it again tonight. I'm still likely taking too much, and will have to "skinny up" when I get there. I'll take a ginormous amount of pictures, and will post when I get back. And now the burning question that I'll face tonight, how does one sleep the night before the HUNT of a LIFETIME? Don

Don't know Don, I don't sleep well before any hunt. Gun, ammo, boots, tags, knife, binoculars, spotting scope.... all the rest is luxury. ;-) An 11-year old ram is a trophy in my book, regardless of size. If I'll come across an 11-year old bighorn this fall, and he's legal, I'm going for him. That said, a MONSTER would be nice too! ;-) Spent all of yesterday looking for him, but only saw some ews and lambs, and two bull elk. But there is still time. I hope you'll have a great hunt! Good luck with all the plane rides. Frans

Is it that time again, all ready? I'm vegetating in the heat, trying to decide where to go. Us old bears and heat don't co-exist too well. The trick in Sheep hunting is to outguess the other guy where the rams will be on opening day. Right about now, Frans, your rams are probably dozing right beside the road, in the Sheep River sanctuary. If I can Find the picture, will post it. Was in sheep country last Sunday, saw 15 rams right on the divide, but on the BC side by 100 meters or so. 2 full curls in the bunch, although neither really monsters. That gets a guy a little more excited. So will have to be in the area and see if they will hang on the Alta side or not when the season gets closer. As they have to be full curl there the rest are safe enough this year. Can hardly wait to Sept now.

Grizz, I've seen those rams in the Sanctuary, returning from a day that nearly killed me in the Junction, obviously without seeing rams on the mountain. A little angel whispered in my ear about rams on the divide, a lead that I need to check out. Can't next weekend, dammit, maybe the one thereafter. Frans

Wheels-up in Atlanta at 4:25pm! Next stop SLC and it's 101 degrees there per the Weather Channel, then on to Edmonton for an overnight. Don
