Well it took a couple years of planning, but I was finally able to put a moose hunt together for the wife. Erika had wanted to get a Bull moose for a while now but with me being a farmer. A fall hunt during the rut was out of the question. At that time of the year I am a little busy....



So with a little bit a help from a few friends, I was able to arrange a moose hunt a little bit out of the ordinary. Atleast for the people that don't know that we have a healthy population of moose out on the prairie and surrounding farm land.

So her season started off with a trip for Mule deer with her dad. This is only the second time that he has been able to hunt with his daughter since she moved to AB and started hunting. It takes 3-4 years to get a mule deer buck tag out where we hunt. It was a nice trip with each of them getting a nice buck, not the big ones. But that is what keeps us going back. We ended up coming home with 2 bucks and 4 does.





After that trip it was time to get serious about the moose. So after 4 days of chasing moose and only seeing cows and calves. The afternoon of the 5th day was the charm. Erika was finally able to get her first bull moose. And keeping in tradition with the rest of her first animals, she got a nice one. He went 51", not bad for a prairie moose.





Yes this moose is laying a canola stubble field. Moose look even bigger when they are in a field grazing like a whitetail deer would.

This year she decided to use her winchester mod. 70 in 300 WSM topped with a Zeiss 4.5-15 for all of her hunting. As expected the 180 gr. triple shock bullets performed well.

She was happy with the results of the bullets and the way the rifle performed.

The animals in Namibia should start to worry, as this is one of the rifles that she will be using in July.

Great post, congratulations on some great hunting; I love Alberta, just returned from there this past Sunday, got a good muley and a great whitetail.. also saw 20+ moose, antelope, countless coyotes, and more damn muskrats than I knew existed!!!

Albertans are lucky folk to live in an area so scenic and rich w/game....

The MD was north east of Drumm. by a couple hours. Towards Provost.

And the Moose was east of Camrose.

We still can't decide what to do with the antlers. Probably just go in the pile in the barn.

Have to save some wall space for next year.

Great post and congratulations to Erika.That's a pretty nice Moose period. So you guys have decided on Namibia for your hunt. I think it is a very interesting country with a lot of possibilities for sure. You should try to stay for a little tour of the country after. I'm sure you will find it very impressive.
