I have a M70 Supergrade 264 Win magg that I simply cannot get to shoot well-1.5" tops. I am resolved to getting this rifle rebarrelled. What are your choices as to smiths in your areas and maybe prices as well. I want 26"bbl with a l2 contour in 264 Win Mag.

Hey BR. Try Ron Smith, do a search on here for his phone #, he's in Wimbledon, or something like that I believe. I haven't any rifles built by him, but I have a few of his barrels on rifles, and if his 'smithing skills are half as good as his barrel making skills, you should do alight. - Dan

I'm not certain how far it is from you, but one of the best gunsmiths in Canada is Gailliard.
He's located in Pathlow, Sask. Maybe someone else can help out with a phone number or website. The guy makes benchrest rifles and is reported to be one of the best. His barrels have won quite a few matches. Best wishes.

I use prairiegunworks in winnipeg.Their work is very high quality and their prices reasonable. They built two 300ultramags for me in the last few years and both average 1/2" groups.

Ted Gaillard Pathlow Sk. makes some of the best barrels. Only stainless. I have lots of his barrels up to 30". He doesn't fit barrels anymore though. Bevin King at Pouce Coupe(sp?) B.C. makes button rifled barrels up to .577 and is a great guy to talk to. I have never used his barrels but have on coming for a 404. Ron Smith at Wimborne does great work with cut rifled barrels.Mark

last number I have for Ron Smith is
403-631-2405
His barrels are good barrels. The guns he puts them on always shoot well. He makes gain twist rifled barrels also. Folks have nothing but good words for his work.
Gallaird makes great barrels also but you will have to find someone to chamber and put it on. He is mostly into benchrest type guns.

Sorry for getting in late on this, but Bill Leeper in SE BC is about as good as it gets. As you probably know he posts on this site.

His email is bsleeper@look.ca

Hello:
Ron Smith is in Wimborne, about 20 miles east of Olds. Ron makes, or used to, make barrels from scratch. Do't be in a hurry. Also, there is D. Henry in Bentley. This guy is good, though not cheap, but very businesslike. I had him do some work on my Sako. Had it back in a week.

Bill Leeper? Come on! Kidding. I have spent a lot of time looking for a competent knowledgeable gunsmith in this country and forsee Bill getting all of my work in the future. He is building a rifle for me right now complete with a Smith barrel and I anxiously anticipate its completion.

Chuck, Bill has mentioned your rifle to me.

My only complaint with Bill is that he actually takes on other customers, and that increases the time it takes for him to do my work! [Wink] Bill has built several rifles for me, and is doing a rebarrel on one rifle, and a restock job in English walnut on another for me this winter. Honest, intelligent guy with reasonable prices. You've gotta appreciate that combination.

Rick, so you are my hold up. Actually, I'm probably your hold up. I'll probably drive Bill crazy before this rifle is complete. But I'm having alot of fun.
