G'day folks,

not sure if you've experienced this but I've tried for the last week or so to get a hold of a M70 Classic synthetic in 375 H&H. Tried wholesalesports, russels, sir, lebaron etc. Nobody has them. All they could tell me was that they were ordered. 3-6 months. I think wholesale said they had 4 on order....no wonder you can't get them. I wanted a M70 cause of the price. I could always bring it to a smith and pay for slicking it up. I have a Sako 75 in 300 wby which costs more then a M70 but that thing is awesome right out of the box. Trigger, smooth action and it shoots great. Very good synthetic stock also compared to remington, winchester etc. I figured I might as well buy another Sako 75 in 375 H&H. Have a matching pair ya know. So I call wholesale, russells, sir (sir is a joke for firearm selection let me tell you.). No we don't have them.....ordered and could be anywhere from 3-6 months cause apparently they are not told when the rifles will come in. Last hope is Lebaron. I give them a call and they actually have one. So I ordered it and saved 7% of the price for getting a membership card. Pretty happy right now. thumb
I do realize the US gun market is way bigger then ours up here but I never thought it would be this hard to get a gun bigger then .338. You can get .338 anywhere you go. 375 is a different story. Anyways I'll post how it shoots (I have high expectations based on my 300 wby) when it gets here. I also ordered a Leupold VX II 2-7x33 in Wide duplex for this rig. Should fit the bill perfectly.

Cheers

I know what you mean. I too would like to have larger calibers in my collection, but are hard to find. I am not familiar with sir, and/or Lebaron, where are these places located?

Congrats on finding one! I traded off a wood stocked M70 .375 with the intention of getting a synth stocked Classic .375 to replace it. I haven't been able to find one either.

Cheers,
Canuck

That's what I get for reading to fast! Thanks for the correction. Smiler

Looks like I'll be in wait mode on a M70 SS for a while yet.

Cheers,

Kman,

I bought a Winchester 70 Classic Stainless in 375h&h in September 2003 and the only place which could get one for me was LeBaron... I hope you enjoy your gun as much as I enjoy mine.

Cheers,

It's sad but true, SIR is a big shop, but if it's not a .223, .243, .270, 7Mag, .308, .30-06, .300Mag, or .338Mag, forget it. They don't carry anything in, say, 6.5x55 or 7mm-08 or .257 Bob or .280 Rem...

When I wanted some cz550 rifles to wreck for the actions I went to the local gunshop and ordered them. He had them in 416 Rigby in a week and at a pretty good price. Sometimes it pays to look close to home rather than talking to a machine a thousand miles away.I have found mail order gun dealers to be very frusterating to say the least. The most important thing to them is to get your credit card #.Mark

I will be interested in how it shoots. I am thinking that my next gun will be the sako 375 or 416.

When looking for oddball rifles/calibers or for a big bore, try Canadian GunNutz Forum They have a VERY active buy/sell forum(s) and big bores come up fairly regularly. That's where I got my .458 Win Mag!

Got the gun and got it sighted in today. The rifle shot .75 inch groups with the normal 270gr remington factory ammo and I worked up some 270gr TSX loads that where .50 inch. Pretty happy and with the limbsaver pad it kicks like a factory 300 win mag with the factory pad.

Cheers

You guys should count yourselves lucky...here in the UK, it's practically impossible to own / shoot even a 338. Most ranges won't let you shoot one and the police (who control our applications) are dead set against anything bigger than 308.
Drives you nuts!

I can certainly see why you want to come to Canada; you sound like the sort of chap who would be welcome here and would enjoy this country. Of course, B.C. is the best part of Canada, but, Alberta is also pretty neat.

For employment and fabulous hunting, you can get a teacher's job in the Yukon or N.W.T. w/o problem and a few years up there will be an adventure. Check it out, my wife was an outpost Nurse there and had a fantastic time.

Kman, I'm sure you will enjoy it I have had a Sako 375 for a long time and it is easily my favorite and most accurate rifle. Mine is in a McMillan stock. Very nice.
