I'll be hunting in BC in the fall, and hopefully will need to ship some frozen meat home to Cincinnati.

Does anybody know how to get this done? I have found all the government regulations that say it is possible, but can't find anybody who knows how to do it.

I think I've got all the forms to do it myself, but it's three days' drive each way - and I;m getting old and lazy.

Thanks,

As an outfitter in the NWT, lots of our clients take meat home. First, I'd order a couple a couple of Too-Kool Meat bags, .....anything froze in them will keep for days. Then you have the option of driving or taking the meat as excess baggage. Most airlines will not accept the meat for freight as it may end up sitting somewhere in the heat. Also, make sure you have any export permits required for the meat from the province and make sure the meat is deboned and not running with blood. If you have the chance to have it processed first, all the better. ~Arctic~

So, if I get a moose I can only get a fraction of it home?

This seems to be a common response. Export it myself, either by air or by car (shudder! its 2486 miles one way!).

It gets expensive fast as excess baggage ($125USD for each 70 lb gross package - about $2/lb! .)

A quick web search got no hits on Too-Kool or any variant. Can you give me a hint on where to buy them?

Thanks,

The supplier is American Outdoors, 1-800-336-5208, website is www.american-outdoors.com A 48 pack Kool Tote will hold about a hundred pounds of meat, the Century Bag will hold more, but since it's new, I don't know how much. For anybody looking for meat bags, these are definitely the best and have lots of other use as a cooler, etc.

Yes, it is difficult to move meat nowadays as no one wants the responsibility. But, at least this year you can take it home ........last year you couldn't, due to the Mad Cow scare! ~Arctic~
