I am completely ignorant of this subject. But If I hunt Caribou, etc, can the meat be brought back to the U.S.? Just a thought. Cause 2 would be a nice amount of meat. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. The things you see when you don't have a gun. NRA Endowment Life Member Proud father of an active duty Submariner... Go NAVY!

I suggest you check the exporting of game meat laws in the jurisdiction you are hunting. Up here we need an export permit to transport game meat from the Yukon to anywhere out of the territory. I did not have any problem taking game meat to the States but `I did get asked twice at customs for the export permit. The permits here are free and are only available from the Game Branch offices. You can bring back the meat with no problems. Some areas of Quebec have stops where you have to show them your meat of the animals. They frown on Caribou with 3 hind quarters. Also, you must make sure all meat and brains are absent from your skulls before you hit the boarder. They turned us away until we came back with skulls cleaned.Watson Lake is correct about export permits. If you hunt with a quided outfit they usually provide them. If not, stop at a hunting store and see if they have them. Not all liscense dealers carry them. Don't wait until you get in line at the boarder because they will do there thing, then send you back for the export permit. Good Luck on your hunt.

It depends on the province or territory. Some, as with the Yukon and NWT, require you to go to the game department and get an export permit, in other provinces your properly cancelled species licence acts as an export permit for 30 days after the date of kill. As mentioned, the skull plate must be cleaned of all brains, meat, blood and connective tissue so it looks white, and you should make sure you are not taking any of the spine or spinal tissue. At the border you will need to declare the meat and fill out a USDA form to import the meat into the US. Most decent outfitters in Canada will fill you in on all of this stuff and many will even have copies of the USDA form for you. Best thing to do is check with your outfitter. They will know what applies with respect to the province/territory you are actually hunting in. ______________________________________________ The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who are bereft of that gift.
