I will be arriving in Winnipeg on Sept 10 for a bow bear/wolf hunt and some fishing as well. Just wondering if there was anything out of the ordinary for clearing Customs, coming and going etc there? It's been several years now since I have been to Canada and was just wanting any tips and suggestions on making this part of the trip uneventful. Thanks for any help and or suggestions. Make sure you have a passport. Grizz Indeed, no human being has yet lived under conditions which, considering the prevailing climates of the past, can be regarded as normal. On the customs form make sure you declare your bow as a weapon. They are kind of funny about what constitutes a weapon. Also, When you are at the airport and you hear someone talking about the Bombers don't sweat it, they are probably just talking about the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football team.

Please note: Viscount ONLY good for Sunday brunch; the recommended German restaurant (Gasthaus"??) which is nearby has terrific food.....and awesome lunch buffets 2 or 3 days near end of week week......desserts are amazing. Crazy thing about Winnipeg is that the city is loaded with whitetails ....houses in Charleswood (SW corner of city) have deer on their lawns all seasons. When I lived in Wpg., I hunted deer west of town ... paid 1.50 for a night's hotel lodging and 1.25 for dinner in hotel...literally jumped deer everywhere I turned. This was a tad north (I think) of Virden. I encountered moose 45 minutes EAST of town on my way to fish in the Winnipeg River. I wish I had current info on what's available there now. But, as far as Wpg. restaurants and hotels. check with my brother. I have told him to expect to hear from you. PLEASE let me know how things turn out for you. I am jealous. Also, and regarding fishing, you can catch northerns, perch, walleye, 30-lb. catfish, sheepshead, bass within the city limits in an obscure (but pretty) LaBarriere Park. Just drive south on Waverly Street past the perimeter route about 2 miles to a little bridge....the river (small) below proved very productive for me in Spring and Summer. There's a dam to the right of the bridge (hopefully still there...altho' I have heard of recent damage to it) where I have caught enormous catfish. This was in Spring when water was high. Still, Lockport (20 miles north of town) on the Red River, is always great fishing. Fish the north east side of the bridge near the fish ladder, for absolutely any freshwater fish (except trout varieties). Gold-eye usually caught there. Lots of snags. Try smoked gold-eye in Wpg. restaurants. Avoid tulibee (ersatz gold-eye). If you want to drive a couple hours to great fishing, go north to Lockport then east to Lac du Bonnet, then take road toward Pointe du Bois. Along that road is a left turn onto the Bird River Road (Hwy 314???) and continue to big bridge (Bird River)....big pike caught casting from shore ....continue on the progressivly narrowing road to Shoe Lake (I used to catch awesome smallmouths there) ....the road goes all the way to Manigotogan (sp??) on the Bloodvein River....small lakes all the way....really pretty country.

Thanks for all the info. I will try and touch base with your brother early next week. All hunting and fishing on this trip will be on and around the lake we are flying into. Won't have time to search out and try some of the places you mentioned on this go around. Maybe get back up there next year and plan some additional time for some of your suggestions. Later and thanks again. Hopefully will have lots of pics and a report when I return? Will keep you posted. Larry Sellers
