I am looking at doing a black bear hunt in British Columbia and am trying to get the license fees straight. Is this correct for a nonresident alien?
Hunting License $180
Bear Tag $180 2nd Bear Tag $180?
Is there a fee to bring your gun?
Habitat preservation fee $100
GST tax? is this on the license, cost of hunt?

Or my question is how much are the government fees for a two bear hunt that cost $2600. Thanks for any help you can give.

Non-resident aliens must be guided by a bonifide outfitter.
I can put you in touch with several outfitters in our area if you like. You can call me @ 250-785-1461 9-5 mountain time. In the meantime, try www.bignine.com or www.highandwild.com I'm not sure if others have web sites. Good luck!

There was a large increase in the cost of tags and licenses last year for non-residents. The $180.00 license and $180.00 per black bear tag is what the province charged last fall. The habitat conservation fee is supposed to be included in the cost of the tags.

The GST is charged on top of the cost for the licenses and is probably applicable to the cost of your hunt as well. You may be able to get a portion of the GST refunded as you are from "out-of-country" Visit the Canada Customs web site to see what, if any, GST rebates you may be elegible for.

I am a B.C. resident and have had quite a bit to do with outfitters here and in Alberta due to my former employment with the provincial Forest Service(s) in both provinces.

I can and will strongly second Yama regarding Big 9 Outfitters, there is not a better operation in this province. They have a wide variety of game, in addition to Black Bears and their camps are just superb; the owner, Barry Thompkins is both a nice guy and a real pro.

I think that all the Vancouver Island outfitters will employ this technique from time to time.

like gatehouse said,a lot of the outfitters employ this technique.it's one of my favorite ways to see bears whether i'm hunting or just looking for them.they tend to flock to the beach at low tide to feed on the little crabs and the likes.they show very little fear of people in a boat as well.if you'relooking for a top notch bear hunt, the west coast opf vancouvrt island is hard to beat.i've seen some pretty nice bears out there already this year.sorry about the lack of capital letters and the likes but i broke my arm on sunday and am now a true one fingered typer as opposed to the two fingered typer that i was before.

Here's the thing Clarke. You're right on most counts except for the 80 thing.Fortunately,I have excellent benefits at work and I won't lose any wages.I'm retiring from jumping, especially jumping at high speeds. The thing is that it's not really my fault.I have a friend(?) who has had more guys that ride with him, break bones, pull muscles, hurt ribs, and lose teeth than seems right. So a few of us(when we're healthy)are going to take him out onto one of the trails he built, pull a 2X4 off one of his stunts, beat him senseless, then put the 2X4 back because we aren't vandals, and then rename the trail Rons Blood Bath Blvd.It sort of seems to be the right thing to do
On another note,I haven't hunted bears this spring aqnd I certainly won't now,but I've been out to the West Coast a lot both for work and pleasure(2000 Jumbo Prawns this year)and have seen a number of really nice bears this year.Have you got a bear yet?

"Put the 2x4 back because we're not vandals!!" I almost pissed myself when i read that!!! Too funny!!
